Mahindra & Mahindra has taken possession of 800 acres of land in Maharashtra’s Additional Butibori industrial area in Nagpur to develop a major automobile and tractor manufacturing hub. The project involves an investment of more than ₹15,000 crore and is expected to create over 20,000 direct jobs, strengthening Maharashtra’s manufacturing sector.
The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) handed over the land on October 26, marking a major step towards the development of the greenfield manufacturing facility.
Mahindra Completes Land Acquisition Within Six Months
The land handover was completed within six months of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed at Advantage Vidarbha 2026. MIDC regional officer Manohar Pote and chief engineer Rajesh Zanjal handed over possession to Mahindra representatives, including Vinay Khanolkar, Chief Operating Officer of the company’s automotive division.
Kapil Chandrayan of the Association for Industrial Development (AID), which helped facilitate the land transfer, said the quick completion would create a favourable environment for industrial investment in the Vidarbha region.
₹706 Crore Paid for the First Phase
Mahindra has paid MIDC more than ₹706 crore for the first phase of the project. The company has been allocated a total of 1,500 acres, of which the remaining 700 acres will be handed over at a later stage.
The project is expected to generate over 20,000 direct jobs, creating employment opportunities for local youth. Mahindra also plans to establish a skilling centre in Nagpur to train workers in manufacturing-related skills.
Additionally, a separate 150-acre supplier park is planned in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to support the manufacturing hub and strengthen its supply chain.
Production to Begin in 2028
Mahindra’s new greenfield facility is scheduled to begin production in 2028. The integrated manufacturing hub is planned to produce more than five lakh vehicles and over one lakh tractors annually.
The automotive unit will support petrol and diesel-powered vehicles, electric vehicles (EVs) and next-generation vehicle platforms. Bringing automobile and tractor manufacturing together at one location is expected to improve supply-chain efficiency and support faster production.
The tractor manufacturing unit will cater to both domestic demand and export markets, potentially expanding the reach of tractors manufactured in Nagpur to agricultural markets overseas.
CMV360 Says
Mahindra’s ₹15,000 crore manufacturing hub is expected to strengthen Nagpur’s position as an important automotive and tractor production centre. With 800 acres secured in the first phase, the company is moving towards its planned 2028 production start. The project’s employment potential, proposed skilling centre and supplier park could benefit local industries and workers. Its combined vehicle and tractor production capabilities may also support domestic demand and expand exports.
