The government has released the fourth list under the Kisan Karj Mafi Yojana, with around 4.15 lakh farmers expected to benefit from loan waivers worth approximately ₹4,000 crore.
Alongside the loan waiver, the state is preparing to transfer ₹5,000 directly into the bank accounts of approximately 1.5 crore farmers across 304 drought-affected tehsils. The proposed assistance is expected to cost around ₹7,500 crore and will help farmers manage agricultural expenses and household needs.
Maharashtra Releases Fourth List Under Kisan Karj Mafi Yojana
The Maharashtra government has accelerated the farm loan waiver process to provide relief to eligible farmers before Diwali. Under the latest development, the Cooperative Department has submitted a proposal worth approximately ₹4,000 crore to the Finance Department to cover 4.15 lakh farmers.
The fourth list follows the earlier release of the third list, which included 3,51,192 farmers. The government is working to process eligible claims and ensure that farmers receive the benefits as quickly as possible.
The loan waiver scheme aims to reduce the financial burden on farmers who have struggled to repay their crop loans. The latest proposal is expected to provide additional relief to thousands of farming families across the state.
Crop Loans Up to ₹2 Lakh to Be Waived
Under the Maharashtra Kisan Karj Mafi Yojana, eligible farmers can receive a waiver on outstanding crop loans of up to ₹2 lakh. The scheme also covers eligible restructured loans.
According to the scheme's eligibility rules, crop loans must have been disbursed between April 1, 2019, and March 31, 2025. These loans must have remained outstanding as of September 30, 2025, and must not have been repaid by March 31, 2026, to qualify under the stated conditions. The government has also announced that interest and other expenses from April 1, 2026, onward will be waived under the scheme.
So far, approximately 15,85,493 farmers in Maharashtra have benefited from the Kisan Karj Mafi Yojana. The state government has disbursed around ₹13,275 crore under the programme. The Marathwada region accounts for the largest number of beneficiaries, with approximately 6.27 lakh farmers receiving benefits.
KYC and Aadhaar Authentication Essential for Loan Waiver
Farmers waiting for loan waiver benefits should ensure that their KYC and Aadhaar authentication are complete. According to government sources, the KYC process for approximately 4.82 lakh farmers is still pending.
Farmers who have completed their KYC but have not yet received the benefit are also expected to receive relief as the government processes eligible cases.
To avoid delays, farmers should check their outstanding loan account balances and confirm their eligibility. Those with pending documentation should visit the nearest service centre to complete their KYC and Aadhaar authentication. Completing these formalities will help the authorities verify their details and process eligible loan waiver claims.
₹5,000 Advance Assistance for 1.5 Crore Drought-Affected Farmers
In addition to the loan waiver, the Maharashtra government is preparing a separate financial assistance package for farmers affected by drought. Under the proposed measure, approximately 1.5 crore farmers across 304 drought-affected tehsils are expected to receive ₹5,000 each as advance assistance. The total estimated expenditure for this initiative is around ₹7,500 crore.
According to the available information, the government plans to deposit the amount directly into farmers bank accounts, with the transfers expected during the reported week. The assistance is intended to help farmers manage immediate financial needs, including agricultural inputs, farming activities and household expenses during difficult conditions.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has instructed banks not to use this assistance to recover farmers' old loans. This direction is intended to ensure that beneficiaries can retain the money and use it for their immediate needs rather than having it deducted against existing debt.
Maharashtra Government Orders Action Against Finance Companies Harassing Farmers
The state government has also directed authorities to take strict action against financial companies accused of pressuring farmers for loan repayments through coercive recovery practices.
The issue was raised during a cabinet meeting, following which instructions were issued to investigate complaints and initiate legal action against companies found harassing farmers.
The move is particularly significant for farmers facing financial difficulties due to drought and mounting agricultural expenses. Along with loan waivers and advance assistance, action against aggressive recovery practices is intended to provide additional support to affected farming families.
What Farmers Should Know About the Relief Measures
The loan waiver and drought assistance are separate relief measures, each with its own eligibility requirements and payment process. Farmers awaiting loan waivers should verify their loan details and complete any pending KYC or Aadhaar authentication.
Drought-affected farmers should also follow announcements from the Maharashtra government and the relevant departments for confirmation of payment dates, eligibility conditions and the status of bank transfers.
While the government is working to speed up the distribution of benefits before Diwali, farmers should rely on official updates to confirm when their individual payments will be credited.
