Key Highlights:
• JCTSL is considering turning bus stands into e-bus charging points in Jaipur.
• Underused bus stands may transform into e-bus charging stations, meeting infrastructure needs.
• JCTSL plans e-bus charging points despite procurement pause, showing commitment to eco-friendly transport.
Jaipur City Transport Services Limited (JCTSL) officials are considering a proposal from the Traffic Control Board of the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA). The proposal aims to transform certain bus stands into charging points for e-buses. As part of the state government’s plan to acquire approximately 500 e-buses, most of which will operate on Jaipur’s roads, this initiative seeks to optimize existing infrastructure.
Many of the city’s bus stands currently remain underutilized. Simultaneously, the need arises for charging infrastructure to support the growing fleet of electric buses. During a recent Traffic Control Board meeting, the idea was floated to convert select bus stands or allocate portions of these stands for e-bus charging units.
This strategic move would ensure that e-buses can be charged when not in use. While the process of procuring e-buses is temporarily on hold due to the model code of conduct, JCTSL officials are actively planning to install charging points.
"The majority of the city's bus stops are underutilized. On the other hand, we require one or two charging stations on every road where our buses travel. So, at the most recent TCB meeting, it was proposed to convert a few bus stands or a section of these buses into charging stations for e-buses," according to a JCTSL official.
Officers stated that once the corporation begins acquiring e-buses, it will install charging devices at all depots so that buses can be charged when not in use. Still, they want at least one or two units on all highways where JCTSL buses go - depending on the number of buses on that road - in case of an emergency.
"We had begun the process for getting e-buses. However, the procedure is on hold due to the model code of behavior. Once the elections are done, we will purchase these buses. Meanwhile, we are working on such additional projects and will shortly begin the installation of charging outlets," an official noted.

This forward-thinking approach by JCTSL demonstrates its commitment to sustainable public transportation and the adoption of electric mobility solutions in Jaipur. As the city embraces cleaner and greener alternatives, the transformation of bus stands into charging points represents a significant step toward a more eco-friendly urban transport system.

Turning bus stops into charging points for e-buses in Jaipur is a smart move. It saves space and helps make buses more eco-friendly. Even though they can't buy e-buses just yet, getting ready for them shows they care about clean transport. It's a good step for Jaipur's environment and people.
