The announcements come alongside the appointment of George Bamford as Joint Chairman of JCB, working alongside his father, Lord Bamford. This marks the first leadership change at the top of the company in more than 50 years.

JCB’s $1 Billion Texas Factory

JCB’s new one-million-square-foot facility in San Antonio, Texas, will become the company’s largest factory worldwide. It will manufacture Loadall telescopic handlers and access equipment for the North American market.

The plant is expected to create 1,500 jobs over the next five years. North America is the world's largest construction equipment market, making the new facility an important part of JCB’s expansion strategy.

£100 Million Investment in Staffordshire

JCB will also spend £100 million upgrading its Staffordshire headquarters, where the company has been based since 1950. The programme includes a £60 million fully automated powder paint plant and upgrades to the manufacturing shop floor.

JCB expects the investment to support more than 8,000 UK jobs. Founder Joseph Cyril Bamford moved production to Rocester in 1950, initially using a former cheese factory.

George Bamford Becomes Joint Chairman

George Bamford has become Joint Chairman alongside Lord Bamford, representing the first change at the company’s top level in more than five decades. Lord Bamford will continue as chairman.

JCB currently operates 23 factories worldwide and employs more than 20,000 people.

The company also runs the JCB Academy, which was established in 2010 to help address engineering skills shortages. This year, 708 students applied for 314 places, while around 3,750 young people have studied at the academy. JCB said all its leavers have progressed to employment or further education.

Separately, 116 apprentices, undergraduates and graduates joined JCB this month after being selected from more than 6,300 applicants.

JCB 2025 Financial Results

JCB reported £5.7 billion in turnover in 2025, compared with £5.8 billion in 2024. Profit before tax fell from £687.3 million to £642 million.

Machine sales declined around 5%, from 119,848 units in 2024 to 113,498 units in 2025. Despite flat demand in North America and a 12% contraction in the Indian market, JCB said it increased its global market share.

The company remained debt-free, with no net borrowings. CEO Graeme Macdonald said turnover remained broadly steady due to a more favourable market and product mix.

Hydrogen-Powered Hydromax Sets World Record

JCB’s expansion plans follow the record-setting performance of its hydrogen-powered Hydromax vehicle at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.

Driven by Wing Commander Andy Green, Hydromax reached 406.320 mph (653.909 km/h), more than doubling the previous hydrogen combustion speed record. It also surpassed JCB’s 2006 Dieselmax record of 350.092 mph.

Hydromax used two production-based hydrogen engines manufactured at JCB’s Foston plant in Derbyshire. JCB said the project progressed from concept to world-record vehicle in just 18 months.

The company has invested £100 million in hydrogen combustion technology and has started producing hydrogen-powered machines. JCB says it was the first construction equipment manufacturer to bring a fully approved hydrogen-fuelled combustion engine to market.

JCB Expects Moderate Growth in 2026

JCB expects moderate market growth in 2026, although Macdonald highlighted continued geopolitical uncertainty. The additional production capacity in Staffordshire and Texas is intended to help the company respond to future demand.

Lord Bamford said the investments would position JCB to capture upcoming opportunities, while George Bamford reiterated the importance of Britain as the company’s home despite its expanding global operations.

CMV360 Says

JCB’s latest investments underline its focus on expanding manufacturing capacity while continuing to develop hydrogen technology. The Texas factory will strengthen its North American production footprint, while Staffordshire upgrades will support UK operations and jobs. At the same time, George Bamford’s appointment marks a major leadership transition, as JCB enters 2026 with expectations of moderate market growth despite geopolitical uncertainty.
