Jammu and Kashmir administration has launched an initiative to improve road safety by equipping commercial passenger vehicles with dashboard cameras. This direction to install dashboard cameras was by the Union Territory administration.

This initiative will allow the administration to monitor the commercial vehicle fleet and driving habits of operators and take preventative measures before they lead to any accidents.

Reason for Installing Dashboard Cameras

This initiative is launched to prevent road accidents and improve passenger safety in the region. The decision was made after a bus veered off a mountain road and rolled 300 feet into a gorge in the Assar area of Doda district last month, causing 39 deaths.

The installation of the dashboard cameras in passenger commercial vehicles was overseen by the Deputy Commissioner of Doda, Harvinder Singh and Senior Superintendent of Police, Abdul Qayoom. During this event, the Motor Vehicle Department officials were also present.

This initiative is a strict measure taken by the government to address the issue of careless driving habits of passenger vehicle drivers. With cameras installed the cause of accidents can be identified easily thus the drivers will have to operate these vehicles safely.

Dashboard Cameras for Better Road Safety

The Deputy Commissioner is confident that this initiative will reduce road accidents. He said that dash cameras will help trace the cause of accidents in the area and proof of any negligence or careless driving.

Additionally, he expressed these measures are needed to ensure a safer travel experience for the passengers. Dashboard cameras are used worldwide to provide security to commercial vehicles and capture the cause in case any accidents happen.

This initiative from the J&K administration will help identify driving habits that may cause accidents and thus minimise the chances of road accidents, also providing a more safer and comfortable travel experience for the passengers.
