Key Highlights:
Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas, demonstrated India's advancements in green hydrogen mobility by showcasing a hydrogen-fuelled bus to Bhutan’s Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay, and his delegation. The bus, developed by IndianOil, is a part of India's ongoing efforts to promote sustainable transportation solutions, according to the Press Information Bureau.
Bhutan's Interest in Green Hydrogen
Bhutan's delegation showed interest in adopting green hydrogen technology to further its environmental sustainability goals. The shared vision between India and Bhutan for green energy initiatives is seen as a promising step toward broader regional cooperation.
Commitment to Green Energy
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including V Satish Kumar, Chairman & Director (Marketing) of IndianOil. The demonstration emphasized India’s commitment to green hydrogen as a vital part of its clean energy future. Minister Puri expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with regional partners like Bhutan to work towards a cleaner future.
Hydrogen-Fuelled Buses Operational in India
Currently, eight hydrogen fuel cell buses are operational in the Delhi NCR region and Vadodara, with IndianOil’s infrastructure supporting them. The demonstration aligns with India’s broader goals to achieve decarbonization and promote green hydrogen as a future energy source.
IndianOil’s Green Hydrogen Reasearch
Since 2004, IndianOil has been at the forefront of hydrogen research, initially concentrating on hydrogen-CNG blends. The company has since expanded into green hydrogen projects, which include storage, transportation, and various industrial applications. India’s first hydrogen dispensing station at IndianOil’s R&D Centre in Faridabad is already operational, and the company is collaborating with Tata Motors to develop green hydrogen fuel cell buses.
Environmentally Friendly Technology
Hydrogen fuel cell buses are considered among the most eco-friendly vehicles. When used as fuel, they emit only water vapor and hydrogen. India’s first green hydrogen fuel cell bus was unveiled earlier this year during India Energy Week in Goa.
