India’s Commercial Vehicle Sector Celebrated at 16th Apollo CV Awards 2025

The commercial vehicle (CV)sector of India came together to celebrate innovation, achievements, and progress at the 16th Apollo CV Awards 2025. Held on 11 March 2025 in Mumbai, the event recognised outstanding contributions from the industry in 2024 and set the stage for the future of commercial mobility in India.

A Celebratory Evening for the CV Industry

The Apollo CV Awards were organised by Commercial Vehicle magazine, part of Next Gen Publishing Pvt Ltd (a Shapoorji Pallonji Group company). Apollo Tyres Ltd has supported the event for 16 years. Other key partners included:

Major Award Winners

CV of the Year: Mahindra Veero (Diesel) SCV Pickup

The Mahindra Veero (Diesel) SCV Pickup took home the top honour of ‘CV of the Year’. It was applauded for introducing a multi-energy platform, supporting the industry’s shift to cleaner and more efficient technologies. The jury chose it unanimously, marking a big achievement for Mahindra.

CV Maker of the Year: Tata Motors

Tata Motors Ltd won the prestigious ‘CV Maker of the Year’ award. The brand was praised for maintaining its market leadership, a strong product lineup, and innovative customer service throughout the year.

Honouring Industry Leaders

Several key individuals who made significant contributions to the CV sector were recognised:

  • Suman Mishra, MD & CEO, Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Ltd – Breakthrough Leader of the Year

  • Dheeraj Hinduja, Executive Chairman, Ashok Leyland Ltd – CV Person of the Year

  • Vinod Aggarwal, Vice Chairman (Non-Executive), Eicher Motors Ltd & MD & CEO, VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd – Lifetime Achievement Award

The keynote speech was delivered by Sarwant Singh, President & Chief Commercial Officer - EMEA at MarketsandMarkets. His presentation, ‘Beyond Roads: Transforming Freight And People Mobility’, gave powerful insights into:

  • The role of sustainability in transforming the industry

Launch of White Paper: Future of Indian CVs

A special white paper titled ‘Future of India & Growth Opportunities for Commercial Vehicles’ was launched during the event. It was presented by MarketsandMarkets, Commercial Vehicle magazine, and Apollo Tyres.

Key highlights included:

  • Overall, CV sales are projected to grow at a CAGR of 4.7–4.8% from 2025 to 2030

  • Electric commercial vehicles are expected to grow at a 47% CAGR in the same period

  • Focus on localisation, cleaner fuels, and low-cost fleet operations

Panel Discussion: Green Freight Corridors

A vital discussion titled ‘Green Freight Corridors and Their Future’ was led by VG Ramakrishnan, Managing Partner at Avanteum Advisors LLP. The panel explored:

  • Opportunities and challenges in green freight corridor development

  • Need for better infrastructure

  • Role of both the government and the private sector in enabling success

Encouraging Self-Reliance and Local Growth

The event aligned with key Government of India programmes like:

  • Aatmanirbhar Bharat

  • Viksit Bharat 2047

These initiatives promote local manufacturing, skilling, and reduced import dependency. This push is helping Indian CV makers become more globally competitive.

The awards also honoured the backbone of the industry, including:

  • Fleet owners

  • Body builders

  • Service providers

Sandeep Mathur, Group Head - OEM Business at Apollo Tyres Ltd, highlighted how customers are willing to spend more for quality and value-added services.

Ashish Bhatia, Editor of Commercial Vehicle magazine, spoke about the transparent and fair selection process behind the awards.
