Farmer Receives ₹4 Lakh Tractor Subsidy Under Agricultural Mechanization Scheme: Check Eligibility, Documents and Application Process

Key Highlights

  • Chhattisgarh farmer received a ₹4 lakh tractor subsidy.

  • Tractor worth ₹9.40 lakh purchased for ₹5.40 lakh after subsidy.

  • 572 out of 575 applications resolved at Sushasan Tihar camp.

  • Subsidy also available on rotavators, cultivators, threshers, seed drills and power tillers.

  • Farmers can apply through Agriculture Department offices or state online portals.

Modern farming is becoming increasingly dependent on tractors and agricultural machinery to reduce labour costs, improve productivity, and complete farm operations on time. However, buying a tractor is often beyond the financial reach of small and marginal farmers.

To make farm mechanization more affordable, state governments provide financial assistance under the Agricultural Mechanization Scheme. A recent success story from Chhattisgarh highlights how this support can help farmers reduce the cost of purchasing tractors and other farm equipment.

Chhattisgarh Farmer Gets ₹4 Lakh Subsidy for Tractor Purchase

Progressive farmer Tiharuram Chandra, a resident of Gadhabhata village in the Bilaigarh development block of Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district, received a ₹4 lakh government subsidy under the Agricultural Mechanization Scheme for purchasing a new tractor.

The tractor cost ₹9.40 lakh, out of which the government provided ₹4 lakh as subsidy, reducing the farmer's contribution to ₹5.40 lakh.

The keys of the tractor were handed over to Tiharuram Chandra by Minister-in-charge Tankaram Verma during a Sushasan Tihar (Good Governance) camp held in Jhumka village.

The farmer shared that due to limited landholding and financial resources, he previously had to rent tractors for farming, which increased cultivation costs and often delayed agricultural work. With his own tractor, he can now complete farming operations on time, reduce expenses, and make better use of modern farming techniques.

Sushasan Tihar Camps Help Farmers on the Spot

During the Sushasan Tihar camps, the Agriculture Department set up One Stop Centres to resolve farmers' issues immediately.

According to the department:

  • A total of 575 applications were received.

  • 572 applications were resolved on the spot without delay.

Apart from addressing farmers' problems, the department also distributed:

  • Neem-based pesticides

  • Green manure

  • Certified seeds

  • Small agricultural implements

Rural Agriculture Development Officers also organised farmer awareness sessions (Chaupals) to explain government agricultural schemes and modern farming practices.

Farmers Were Informed About Several Government Schemes

The Agriculture Department used the camp to spread awareness about various central and state government schemes aimed at improving farm productivity and increasing farmers' income.

These included:

  • Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN)

  • Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY)

  • Soil Health Card Scheme

  • Agri Stack Registration

  • Natural and Organic Farming Mission

  • Pulses and Oilseeds Promotion Programme

  • Agricultural Mechanization Scheme

The department said these initiatives are designed to help farmers adopt modern technology while benefiting from government support.

How Farmers Can Get Tractor Subsidy Under the Agricultural Mechanization Scheme

Farmers planning to purchase a tractor or agricultural machinery such as a rotavator, cultivator, thresher, seed drill, reaper, power tiller, and other approved implements can apply for financial assistance under the Agricultural Mechanization Scheme.

The subsidy amount varies depending on the state government's guidelines, the farmer category, and the type of machinery being purchased. In eligible cases, farmers can receive a subsidy of up to ₹4 lakh.

Eligibility and Required Documents

Eligibility conditions differ from one state to another. Farmers should check the latest rules issued by their respective state agriculture department before applying.

Generally, the following documents are required:

  • Aadhaar Card

  • Land ownership documents (B-1, Khasra or equivalent records)

  • Bank passbook

  • Registered mobile number

  • Passport-size photograph

  • Caste certificate (where applicable)

Application Process

Farmers can apply for the Agricultural Mechanization Scheme through:

  • The Block Agriculture Office

  • The District Agriculture Department

  • State agricultural mechanization online portals, where available

After the application is submitted, eligible farmers are shortlisted based on state guidelines, available budget, and in many states, a lottery system. Once selected, the approved subsidy is provided according to the prescribed rules for purchasing tractors or other agricultural machinery.

Modern Farm Machinery Can Reduce Costs

Government support through the Agricultural Mechanization Scheme makes it easier for farmers to invest in modern agricultural equipment without bearing the full financial burden.

Farmers interested in purchasing a tractor or other farm machinery should contact their respective state agriculture department to verify the latest subsidy amount, eligibility conditions, and application process before making a purchase. With the right support, modern farm machinery can help reduce production costs, improve efficiency, and make farming more profitable.

The Agricultural Mechanization Scheme is helping farmers adopt modern farming by reducing the cost of tractors and agricultural equipment through government subsidies. The success of Tiharuram Chandra from Chhattisgarh shows how financial assistance can improve farm productivity and lower cultivation costs. Farmers planning to buy tractors or other machinery should check their state's eligibility rules and apply through the agriculture department to take advantage of this valuable scheme.
