India's commercial vehicle (CV) retail market continued its positive momentum in July 2026, according to the latest data released by FADA Research. The industry recorded retail sales of 99,666 units, compared to 94,972 units in June 2026 and 80,348 units in July 2025.

The market registered a 4.94% month-on-month (MoM) increase and a strong 24.04% year-on-year (YoY) growth, driven by healthy demand across light, medium, and heavy commercial vehicle segments. Improving freight movement, infrastructure activity, logistics demand, and fleet replacement continued to support the industry's growth.

Commercial vehicle retail sales stood at 99,666 units in July 2026, up from 94,972 units in June 2026 and 80,348 units in July 2025.

The healthy monthly and yearly growth indicates sustained demand across transportation, construction, e-commerce, and last-mile delivery sectors.

Segment-Wise Market Analysis

Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV)

The LCV segment remained the largest contributor to India's commercial vehicle market with 61,634 retail units in July 2026.

Sales increased from 59,549 units in June, registering 3.50% MoM growth, while recording an impressive 27.65% YoY increase over 48,284 units sold in July 2025.

Strong demand from e-commerce, urban logistics, pickup trucks, and last-mile transportation continued to drive the segment.

Medium Commercial Vehicles (MCV)

The MCV category recorded 9,925 units during July 2026.

Although the segment declined 5.76% MoM from 10,532 units in June, it registered a healthy 25.00% YoY growth compared to 7,940 units sold in July 2025.

Regional cargo movement, institutional demand, and fleet additions supported yearly growth.

Heavy Commercial Vehicles (HCV)

The HCV segment reported 28,070 retail units in July 2026.

Sales increased significantly from 24,840 units in June, resulting in a 13.00% MoM growth. Compared to 24,048 units sold in July 2025, the segment grew 16.72% YoY.

The improvement reflects continued demand from infrastructure projects, construction, mining, and long-haul freight operations.

Others

The Others category recorded 37 units during July 2026.

The segment declined 27.45% MoM and 51.32% YoY, continuing to account for only a small share of the overall commercial vehicle market.

OEM Performance Overview

Tata Motors Ltd

Tata Motors retained its position as India's leading commercial vehicle OEM by selling 34,733 retail units in July 2026.

The company increased its market share to 34.85%, up from 32.56% in July 2025, reflecting strong demand across both light and heavy commercial vehicle categories.

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd

Mahindra & Mahindra remained the second-largest player with 26,055 units and a 26.14% market share.

While retail volumes increased significantly from last year, its market share was marginally lower than the 26.50% recorded in July 2025.

Ashok Leyland Ltd

Ashok Leyland registered 17,691 retail units, accounting for 17.75% of the market.

The company posted healthy volume growth over last year, although its market share declined slightly from 18.95%.

VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd

VE Commercial Vehicles reported retail sales of 8,724 units, capturing 8.75% market share.

Sales improved compared to July 2025, while market share eased slightly from 9.42%.

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd

Maruti Suzuki sold 4,460 commercial vehicles during July 2026 and secured a 4.47% market share.

The company recorded healthy volume growth over the previous year while maintaining its presence in the compact commercial vehicle segment.

Force Motors Ltd

Force Motors registered 2,610 retail units, improving sales compared to last year.

The company accounted for 2.62% of the market, slightly lower than 2.74% in July 2025.

SML Mahindra Ltd

SML Mahindra recorded 1,845 retail units, with a 1.85% market share.

The company posted a modest increase in sales, although its market share declined compared to 2.23% a year ago.

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Pvt. Ltd

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles sold 1,667 units and captured 1.67% of the market.

The company continued to maintain its presence in the premium truck segment despite a marginal decline in market share.

Other OEMs

Other manufacturers together sold 1,881 units, accounting for 1.89% of the market, compared with 1.25% in July 2025.

Market Outlook

The July 2026 retail data highlights continued strength in India's commercial vehicle industry. Growth across LCVs and HCVs, coupled with strong year-on-year gains across most categories, reflects improving business activity and sustained demand from logistics, infrastructure, construction, mining, and fleet operators.
