Key Highlights:
Ergon Labs and Omega Seiki Private Limited (OSPL) have joined forces in a new partnership to bring advanced technology to electric three-wheelers in India. The agreement includes a ₹50 crore order for Ergon Labs' Integrated Power Converter (IPC) technology, which OSPL will use in its vehicles, starting with the L5 passenger segment.
IPC Technology Overview
The IPC technology combines the charger and motor controller into one unit, offering benefits like 30% better hill-climbing ability, 50% faster charging, and 30% lower costs compared to traditional systems. This innovation is expected to make electric three-wheelers more efficient and affordable in India.
Strategic Partnership
As part of the deal, Uday Narang, OSPL’s Founder and Chairman, will invest in Ergon Labs and join its advisory board. The financial details of the investment were not shared. The partnership aims to roll out 2,000 IPC-equipped vehicles across India in 2026, focusing on the L5 passenger market. L5 passenger vehicles are growing due to demand from ride-hailing services like Rapido, Ola, and Uber in cities and smaller towns.
Leadership Insights:
Ergon Labs’ CEO, Ashwin Ramanujam, called the partnership a major step toward improving light electric vehicle technology. The company has tested its technology over 50,000 kilometers on roads and expects to complete certification within a month.
The two companies are also working on an L5 cargo vehicle capable of carrying over 500 kg, aimed at replacing diesel vehicles in cargo transport. This move aligns with India’s push for electric vehicles to cut pollution and reduce reliance on imported fuel. Electric three-wheelers in India are gaining popularity, especially for commercial use, due to their lower operating costs.
