Key Highlights:
Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) has launched its new BharatBenz Construction and Mining range, aiming to meet the growing demand from India’s fast-developing infrastructure and resource industries. The new lineup includes the rugged HX series and the advanced Torqshift series, specifically designed for heavy-duty construction, mining, and ready-mix applications.
Addressing a Growing Sector
India’s construction and mining equipment sector is projected to grow rapidly, from $16 billion today to $45 billion by 2030. With a 19% compound annual growth rate, the country is on track to become the third-largest construction market in the world by 2025, trailing only China and the U.S. In response, Daimler India has developed a comprehensive portfolio to match this growing momentum.
Before launch, over 150 trucks from the new range underwent real-world validation across various high-demand job sites. The focus was on boosting uptime, operational efficiency, and long-term profitability for customers. These large-scale trials provided insights that shaped the final production models.
Satyakam Arya, Managing Director and CEO at DICV, explained that the company is witnessing a major shift in contractor behaviour. "Fleet owners are moving from rental-based operations to investing in their vehicles. Many of their current trucks are reaching end-of-life. Our new range is timed to match this replacement cycle while delivering real performance and profitability improvements."
Three Product Categories for Specific Needs
The new BharatBenz range features three targeted categories:
HX Series: Includes 2828C HX and 3532C HX models. Designed for extreme durability, these trucks offer two powertrains: 280 hp with 1100 Nm torque and 320 hp with 1250 Nm torque. Key features include Hill Hold Assist, advanced driver monitoring, unitized front axle bearings, and high-gradeability: the 2828C can tackle 60% grades fully loaded, while the 3532C handles up to 54%.
Torqshift Series: Includes 2832CM and 3532CM models with automated manual transmission (AMT). Built specifically for mining, these trucks offer better fuel efficiency, quicker turnaround, and greater driver comfort in harsh working conditions.
Ready-Mix Variant: The 2828C RMC version features a 9 cubic meter drum and uses the OM 926 BSVI OBD-II engine, delivering 280 hp and 1100 Nm torque. It is tailored for the demands of concrete delivery.
Pradeep Kumar Thimmaiyan, President and CTO at DICV, noted that every component of the HX range was redesigned based on customer input. “Fleet managers want lower maintenance costs, drivers want safety, and operators want payload capacity. We've delivered all three. The HX cabin meets full EU ECE R29-03 safety standards, and includes best-in-class features,” he said.
Aligned with India’s Infrastructure Boom
The timing of the launch matches India’s major infrastructure expansion. The government has committed $350 billion to grow the national highway network to 200,000 km by 2025. This increases demand for reliable, high-performance construction and mining vehicles.
Construction equipment sales in India are expected to grow from $5.2 billion in 2022 to over $8.7 billion by 2028. Meanwhile, underground mining equipment is set to expand from $7.4 billion in 2023 to $13.5 billion by 2032.
Rajiv Chaturvedi, President and Chief Business Officer at DICV, added, "Fleet operators are looking for vehicles that maximise uptime and reduce downtime. Features like hill start assist, GPS, reverse cameras, and driver fatigue monitoring are no longer optional, they’re expected. The HX range directly responds to these needs."
Strong Support Network
The new BharatBenz range will be supported by the company’s extensive network of 385 dealerships across India. After-sales service is further strengthened by annual maintenance contracts of up to 15,000 hours, designed to ensure high uptime for customers.
Daimler has also built an advanced uptime center that uses diagnostics and predictive maintenance powered by real-time data analytics. This helps reduce unplanned downtimes and keeps trucks running efficiently in remote and high-stress environments.
