Key Highlights:
Cityflo, Mumbai's premium daily commute service, is adding 100 new custom-built buses to its fleet. These buses were developed in partnership with VolvoEicher Commercial Vehicles (VECV). The new additions will help Cityflo expand routes faster, reduce travel time, and improve overall service efficiency. The new 27-seater buses bring a big change to urban travel, helping Cityflo start new routes faster and run more buses more often. Their compact design allows quicker occupancy, making them more efficient in busy areas.
Leadership Insight:
"One of the biggest challenges in launching new routes is filling buses from day one. These buses help us achieve that, allowing us to expand and sustain more routes across the city at a faster pace," said Jerin Venad, Founder & CEO of Cityflo. He added that more people now prefer smaller, high-frequency routes that connect business districts directly without unnecessary detours.
"In a city where commuters often spend over an hour travelling, these 27-seater buses reduce journey times by up to 13%. This gives customers a service as convenient as their vehicle, with the advantage of reaching their destination faster. Urban transit is changing, and Cityflo is leading the way with a commuter-first approach that combines comfort, speed, and efficiency," said Venad.
Suresh Chettiar, Executive Vice President of the Bus Division at VECV, added, "We take pride in designing passenger-friendly vehicles that offer great value to operators while meeting the needs of modern cities. This partnership with Cityflo is a key step toward creating smarter and more sustainable transit solutions."
Cutting Travel Time in a Crowded City
Mumbai has nearly five million vehicles, with over 650 new ones added every day, making traffic a major challenge. Cityflo’s smaller and more agile buses are designed to run smoothly through the city's crowded roads, helping professionals reach their destinations faster.
Beyond peak hours, Cityflo's expanded fleet will also serve the growing demand for non-peak rides, providing flexible transport for professionals with different work schedules. The smaller buses allow for more adaptable scheduling, ensuring reliable service throughout the day.
Expansion Plans
Cityflo plans to deploy 500 buses across five metro cities by 2026, improving connectivity to business districts across the country. Currently, the service helps replace around 800,000 car trips each year, reducing traffic congestion and cutting carbon emissions by over 27,422 tons annually.
These 100 new buses are a great addition to Cityflo's fleet for a few reasons. First, they have 27 seats. This allows for quicker boarding and faster trips. Second, their compact size helps them navigate through Mumbai’s traffic easily, getting passengers to their destinations faster. Lastly, the buses are designed to be efficient and sustainable, filling up quickly in busy areas and reducing the need for extra vehicles, which makes operations more eco-friendly and cost-effective.
