Electric Truck Launch: Blue Energy Motors unveils heavy-duty electric truck with battery swapping technology.
First Electric Highway: Maharashtra CM inaugurates Mumbai-Pune Electric Highway Corridor.
Major Investment: New plant with ₹3,500 crore investment, capacity of 30,000 trucks/year.
Energy-as-a-Service: Reduces upfront cost, saves charging time, and lowers total ownership cost.
Sustainable Mobility: Supports Net Zero goals, green logistics, and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.
Blue Energy Motors (BEM) has made a major move in India’s journey toward clean and sustainable transportation. The company officially launched its electric heavy-duty truck featuring advanced battery swapping technology at its Chakan plant in Pune. The launch event was attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also inaugurated India’s first Electric Highway Corridor between Mumbai and Pune. This marks a historic step towards the development of green freight corridors in India.
The Mumbai-Pune electric corridor is just the beginning of a larger plan to create a nationwide network of electrified highways. Over the next three years, the Indian government plans to electrify major national highway corridors, connecting key freight routes and promoting sustainable logistics. This move aligns with India’s Net Zero emission goals and aims to make road transportation more eco-friendly and efficient.
To boost this vision, Blue Energy Motors signed an MoU with the Maharashtra government to establish a new truck manufacturing plant. This upcoming facility will have the capacity to produce up to 30,000 electric trucks annually with an investment of ₹3,500 crore. The company has already received orders for over 10,000 electric trucks, reflecting strong market confidence and growing demand for electric heavy vehicles in India.
During the event, CM Devendra Fadnavis praised Maharashtra’s leadership in green innovation and sustainable mobility. He stated that this initiative supports Atmanirbhar Bharat and India’s long-term environmental objectives. The electric highway corridor and the BEM truck launch together set an example of how technology and sustainability can work hand in hand to create a cleaner logistics ecosystem.
According to Anirudh Bhuwalka, Founder and Managing Director of Blue Energy Motors, this new electric truck represents a major breakthrough in heavy-duty mobility. The truck comes equipped with:
Unlimited range through battery swapping
High payload capacity for heavy cargo
Smart mobility intelligence for better fleet performance
Additionally, BEM’s Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) model offers a practical solution to reduce upfront costs, minimize charging downtime, and ensure the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO). The trucks are designed specifically for Indian road conditions, building on the company’s earlier success with LNG-powered vehicles.
Anshuman Ruia, Director at Essar, a strategic partner in this project, described the launch as a significant milestone in India’s decarbonization journey. He added that Blue Energy Motors and Essar are committed to advancing green mobility, sustainable infrastructure, and cleaner energy solutions across the country.

With large-scale investments, innovative battery-swapping technology, and strong government support, India is steadily moving towards a greener, smarter, and more sustainable logistics future.
