Ashok Leyland, Hinduja Group’s flagship company, has opened a new manufacturing plant in Malavalli, 40 km from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. The 75-acre plant will produce 4,800 buses annually, including diesel buses by Ashok Leyland and electric buses by Switch Mobility. The facility also has a Learning Center and a Service Training Center. It follows eco-friendly practices like rooftop solar panels, LED lighting, battery-operated logistics vehicles, water conservation measures, and a zero-discharge system.

Inaugural Event and Key Attendees

The event was attended by Nara Lokesh, Minister of Information Technology and Human Resource Development, Andhra Pradesh. During the event, Ashok Leyland and the Hinduja Group gave the keys of a Switch electric double-decker bus to the Andhra Pradesh government, showing their support for eco-friendly public transport. Minister Nara Lokesh accepted the bus on behalf of the state.

The event was attended by M Ram Prasad Reddy, Minister of Transport, Sports, and Youth Affairs; T. G. Bharath, Minister of Industries; V. Balashowry, MP from Krishna District; and Y Venkata Roy, MLA from Gannavaram Constituency. Ashok P. Hinduja, Chairman of Hinduja Group – India, and Shom Ashok Hinduja, President of Alternative Energy and Sustainability at Hinduja Group, were also present, along with dealers, customers, and other dignitaries.

Nara Lokesh said the new plant will help Andhra Pradesh’s economy by creating jobs and boosting local businesses.

Dheeraj G. Hinduja, Chairman of Ashok Leyland, spoke about the company’s strong ties with Andhra Pradesh and its plans to explore more opportunities in the region.

Shenu Agarwal, MD & CEO of Ashok Leyland, said the plant will strengthen the company’s position as India’s top bus brand and one of the top five globally. With production already started, the plant is expected to run at full capacity soon, thanks to a large number of orders.
