New wheat arrives, but prices remain high; Pune mandi sees a ₹5800 rate.
Wheat Prices Remain High Despite the Arrival of the New Crop, Rates Reach ₹5800 Per Quintal

Key Highlights:

  • New wheat arrivals fail to lower market prices.

  • Pune mandi records the highest rate at ₹5800/quintal.

  • MSP for 2025–26 set at ₹2425/quintal.

  • Open market prices stay above MSP in most states.

  • Farmers are advised to check local mandi rates before selling.

Even after the arrival of new wheat in mandis across India, the prices have not come down. Farmers are currently getting rates higher than the Minimum Support Price (MSP) in most markets. Pune Mandi recorded the highest wheat price of ₹5800 per quintal.

This price rise has brought smiles to the faces of wheat farmers, as they are receiving better returns this season. While many state governments have already started wheat procurement at MSP, some are preparing to begin the process soon.

Wheat MSP for 2025–26 Season

The central government has fixed the MSP for wheat at ₹2425 per quintal for the Rabi Marketing Season 2025–26, which is ₹150 more than last year. However, farmers still prefer to sell in open markets due to the higher prices offered.

Why Are Wheat Prices High?

According to market experts, the main reasons for higher prices are:

  • Limited arrival of new wheat.

  • Increased demand in the open market.

Prices may come down gradually as arrivals increase, but experts believe it’s unlikely they will fall below the MSP. Still, daily market changes are expected, and farmers are advised to stay informed.

Advice to Farmers

The rates shared above are based on top market prices, and actual prices may vary depending on wheat quality. Sharbati wheat usually fetches a higher rate than regular wheat.

Farmers should:

  • Check the current rate in their nearest mandi.

  • Assess the quality of their produce.

  • Decide wisely before selling.

Staying updated with market prices helps in getting the best return for your hard work.
