Fish farming has become a profitable business, with many farmers earning lakhs through fish production. The government has introduced several schemes to encourage fish farming, including PMMSY, which offers training, financial assistance, and subsidies to eligible farmers.
The PMMSY scheme's application deadline was 21 February 2025, but it has now been extended to 28 February 2025. Interested individuals can apply online through the Fisheries Department's official portal, fisheries.up.gov.in. Dr. Mahesh Chauhan, the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Lucknow, confirmed the extension.
Under PMMSY, farmers can receive up to 60% subsidies for fish farming projects. The scheme aims to provide financial support to women, SC/ST farmers (60% subsidy), and OBC/general category farmers (up to 40% subsidy). These subsidies help farmers set up fish farming units and earn a steady income.
