In a major step to help farmers improve crop production, the Madhya Pradesh government has provided a subsidy of over Rs 6 crore for irrigation equipment. This grant, under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY), aims to promote efficient irrigation methods such as drip and sprinkler systems, which help save water and increase crop yield.
The state government encourages farmers to use sprinkler and drip systems instead of traditional irrigation techniques. These modern systems can save up to 70% of water, making it possible to irrigate larger areas even with limited water resources. The scheme has already benefited 1,870 farmers in Khargone district alone, with a total subsidy of Rs 6.14 crore for sprinkler and drip irrigation.

Deputy Director of Agriculture, Mehtab Singh Solanki, shared that the government's goal is to boost crop production and ensure better water use. In addition to the irrigation subsidy, farmers in Khargone have received other grants, such as Rs 2.38 crore for the National Food and Nutrition Security Scheme and Rs 51 lakh for the National Mission on Edible Oilseeds.
The government also encourages the use of modern farming tools to reduce reliance on labor and improve efficiency. Last year, 4,417 farmers in Khargone received Rs 1.30 crore in subsidies for agricultural equipment, and over 23,000 farmers were provided with soil health cards to help them optimize crop production.

For the year 2024-25, the Madhya Pradesh government continues to support farmers with subsidies for various irrigation systems. These include sprinkler sets, drip systems, pump sets (diesel/electric), pipeline sets, and rain gun systems. Depending on the farmer's category and landholding, subsidies range from 40% to 55%.
The government has also invited applications under different schemes such as the National Mission on Edible Oilseeds, National Food Security Mission Pulses, and the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana for micro-irrigation systems.
This initiative aims to improve irrigation across the state, reduce water wastage, and ultimately help farmers achieve better yields and sustainable farming practices.
