Key Highlights

  • Haryana government offers compensation for crop damage due to hailstorms.
  • Affected farmers must register on the "Meri Fasal Mera Byora Portal."
  • Compensation ranges from Rs. 9,000 to Rs. 15,000 per acre.
  • Farmers must report damage within 72 hours for claims.
  • Two methods are available: toll-free number 14447 or mobile app.

In late December 2024, many farmers in Haryana faced significant crop damage due to unexpected rain and hailstorms. The state government has decided to provide relief to these farmers by offering compensation. Haryana's Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, Vipul Goyal, has instructed revenue officials to speed up the process of assessing crop damage and ensure a fair survey of affected areas.

Areas Affected by Hailstorm

The hailstorm caused the most damage in villages such as Dhangar, Bighar, Mohammadpur Rohi, and others in Fatehabad district. While the farmers initially welcomed the rain, hoping for better crop growth, the hailstorm ruined their hard work. Additionally, several villages in Adampur and Narnaund in Hisar also reported crop damage due to the storm.

Impact on Mustard and Wheat Crops

The mustard and wheat crops have suffered heavy losses, especially in areas like Pataudi near Gurugram. In some places, the mustard crop was completely destroyed, while wheat crops saw up to 70% damage. The storm covered the crops in hail up to one foot, causing severe destruction to vegetables, too.

Compensation for Farmers

The Haryana government has set up a compensation plan for farmers who have suffered crop losses due to rain and hailstorms. The compensation amount is as follows:

  • Rs. 15,000 per acre for 100% crop damage.
  • Rs. 12,000 per acre for 51-75% crop damage.
  • Rs. 9,000 per acre for 25-50% crop damage.

Who Can Receive Compensation?

Farmers who have registered their crop details on the "Meri Fasal Mera Byora Portal" are eligible for compensation. This portal helps the government track the farmer's crop and land details, making the compensation process transparent.

How to Report Crop Loss

Farmers should report their crop loss within 72 hours under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. They can lodge a complaint through the toll-free number 14447 or inform the relevant authorities like the District Agriculture Officer or the crop insurance company’s district representative. Farmers with Android phones can also file a complaint online with their insurance company.

Farmers have two ways to report crop damage:

  1. Call the Krishi Rakshak Portal Helpline at 14447 and provide the required details, including relevant documents. They will receive a complaint number for follow-up.
  2. Use the Crop Insurance Mobile Application available on Google Play Store to submit their complaint.

The government aims to ensure that farmers receive the compensation they deserve as quickly as possible to help them recover from their losses.
