Farmers Can Install Solar Pumps at 10% Cost: State Government to Cover the Rest

Key Highlights:

  • Farmers pay only 10% of the solar pump cost.
  • State covers the remaining cost through a loan.
  • Available to farmers with temporary or no electricity.
  • Future phases include farmers with permanent electric connections.
  • Government warns against fraudulent websites.

The state government has introduced a farmer-friendly initiative to promote year-round irrigation facilities. Under this scheme, farmers can install solar pumps by paying only 10% of the total cost, with the remaining amount covered by the government. This initiative aims to reduce farmer’s financial burden while enhancing irrigation access across the state.

What Is the Scheme?

The solar pump subsidy falls under the Mukhyamantri Krishak Mitra YojanaDuring a recent cabinet meeting, it was decided to include solar agricultural pumps within the existing Pradhan Mantri Krishak Mitra Surya Yojana. This merger allows farmers to install solar pumps at a minimal cost while the government takes on the responsibility of repaying the loan for the remaining amount.

How Much Subsidy Will Farmers Get?

As per the revised scheme guidelines:

  • Farmers need to contribute only 5-10% of the project cost, depending on their category.
  • The remaining amount will be funded through a loan, and the state government will repay the loan directly.

This means farmers can benefit from solar pumps without bearing any long-term financial stress.

In the first phase, solar pumps will primarily benefit farmers with temporary electricity connections or those without electricity.

Future Plans: Solar Pumps for Farmers with Permanent Electric Connections

Farmers using permanent electric pumps will also be eligible for solar pump installations in the upcoming phases. The Madhya Pradesh Energy Development Corporation will implement this scheme under Component 'B' of the Central Government's PM Kusum Yojana. This move will help reduce the state's electricity subsidy burden and minimize distribution losses for power companies.

  2. Prepare required documents, including:
    • Aadhaar card
    • Bank passbook
    • Land ownership documents
    • Kisan Credit Card
  3. Submit an online application on the portal.

Farmers can install solar pumps with capacities ranging from 3 HP to 7.5 HP.

Beware of Fraudulent Websites

The government has issued a warning to farmers about fraudulent websites pretending to offer solar pump subsidies. Farmers are advised to avoid websites with suspicious domain names like *.org, *.in, *.com, or others. Some examples of fake websites include:

For authentic information, farmers should rely only on the official website of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) or contact the toll-free number 1800-180-3333.

Why Choose Solar Pumps?

Switching to solar pumps not only reduces electricity dependency but also lowers operating costs for farmers. With government support through subsidies, this initiative can boost agricultural productivity while promoting sustainable energy use.
