Government Estimation and Procurement Update

The Ministry of Agriculture has projected record wheat procurement in the marketing year 2025-26. Officials say procurement from key wheat-producing states like Uttar Pradesh will pick up soon. The crop yield has been good, and the government is confident about timely achieving procurement targets.

Crop Damage in Many Areas of Uttar Pradesh

However, recent unseasonal rains, hailstorms, and strong winds have damaged crops across various districts in Uttar Pradesh. Wheat, gram, and other crops were either:

  • Still standing in the fields

  • Harvested but kept in bundles, which got soaked due to rain

These wet bundles are now at risk of grain rotting, which can lead to heavy financial losses for farmers.

What the Farmers Should Do

To help farmers receive compensation, the Yogi government has taken a major step:

  • If your insured crop has been damaged after harvest or while standing in the field,

  • Call 14447 (toll-free) within 72 hours to report the loss

  • After that, submit a written application at:

    • Your bank (from where the insurance premium is deducted)

    • Or the office of the District Agriculture Officer or Deputy Agriculture Director

Compensation Process: Quick Action Matters

  • Once your complaint is received, a team from the Agriculture Department will visit your field within 48 hours to inspect the damage

  • Based on their survey report, the compensation will be provided

  • Delays in reporting the loss can cause delays in compensation

Crops Covered Under PMFBY

Under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, the following crops can be insured:

  • Wheat

  • Paddy

  • Chilli

  • Peanuts

  • Pigeon Pea (Arhar)

If you have not insured your crops this time, the Agriculture Department advises you to do so in the future to avoid financial loss due to natural calamities.

Appeal to Farmers

The Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Department has appealed to all farmers:

“Get your crops insured and report any damage immediately. Timely reporting is the only way to receive compensation quickly and avoid loss.”

For any support, farmers can contact the local block office or the district agriculture department.
