In light of the rising importance of technology in agriculture, state governments and agricultural institutions in India are offering training programs focused on agricultural drones. These initiatives aim to boost efficiency and productivity in farming, while also creating promising career opportunities for youth.
Various states, including Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, have launched training programs for aspiring drone operators. For example, Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture (CSA), Kanpur, offers a 7-day course for 10th-grade pass students and individuals involved in agriculture. This course is available at a reduced fee of ₹9,300, which includes training and accommodation. The original cost of the training was ₹65,000, but a 50% discount is being offered under DGCA regulations. Upon completion, participants will receive certification, which also serves as a drone operation license.
The Rajasthan government, through SKN Agriculture University in Jobner, offers a similar 6-day residential drone training program. The fee is also reduced to ₹9,300, covering both training and accommodation. Interested candidates can apply through the Raj Kisan Sathi portal or Raj Kisan Suvidha app or visit their local agricultural department for assistance.
Agricultural drones are playing a transformative role in farming, significantly cutting costs and improving operational efficiency. Dr. C.L. Maurya from CSA University explains that these drones are primarily used for spraying pesticides and fertilizers and conducting soil mapping. Tasks that traditionally required multiple workers and several hours can now be completed by drones in much less time, saving labour costs and reducing input waste.
With the growing adoption of agricultural drones, skilled drone operators are in high demand. Individuals trained in drone operations have several career options to explore:

The agricultural sector is rapidly modernizing with drone technology, which makes traditional farming tasks more efficient and less resource-intensive. Drones can handle pesticide and fertilizer application, soil mapping, and crop monitoring with minimal labour and reduced wastage. This innovation is part of a broader movement toward modernization in agriculture, strongly supported by the Indian government.
With these advancements, the agricultural sector offers substantial career opportunities and growth prospects for young individuals, especially those with drone operating skills. The future of agriculture looks bright as technology continues to transform the industry.
