The Bihar government has taken an important step to support sugarcane farmers by offering a 50 to 60 percent subsidy on modern agricultural equipment under the Sugarcane Mechanization Scheme. The main aim of this scheme is to modernize farming practices, reduce cultivation costs, save time and labour, and increase the income of farmers growing sugarcane on a large scale.
Under the third randomization process for the year 2025–26, a total of 154 farmers have been selected to receive subsidies. These farmers will be provided with financial support for purchasing nine types of modern agricultural machines. The government believes that the use of advanced machinery will make farming easier and more efficient, helping farmers improve productivity and earnings.
Agriculture today is facing challenges such as labour shortages, rising input costs, and the need to complete farm work on time. For long-duration crops like sugarcane, mechanization has become essential. Modern machines help farmers complete tasks faster, reduce dependence on manual labour, and make farming more profitable. Keeping these needs in mind, the state government has strengthened efforts to promote mechanized farming through this scheme.
Under the Sugarcane Mechanization Scheme, subsidies will be provided on the following equipment:
Disc harrow
Power weeder
Power tiller
Land leveler
Laser land leveler
Ratoon management device
Rotavator
Tractor-mounted hydraulic sprayer
These machines help in land preparation, leveling, weed control, spraying, and ratoon management, which reduces overall farming costs and improves crop quality and yield.
The Sugarcane Industry Department has issued approval letters to all selected farmers. Based on these letters, farmers can purchase equipment only from authorized sellers listed on the SuMech portal.
The subsidy process includes the following steps:
Farmers must first pay the full cost of the equipment themselves.
After purchase, the department will conduct a physical verification of the equipment.
Once verification is completed, the approved subsidy amount will be transferred directly to the farmer’s bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
This system ensures transparency and timely payment of subsidies.
The department has clarified that the approval letter will remain valid until January 18, 2026. Farmers must complete the purchase and verification process within this period. Failure to meet the deadline may result in losing the benefit of the scheme. Farmers are advised to complete all required steps on time.
To assist farmers, the Sugarcane Industry Department has provided a helpline number 0612-2215788. Farmers can contact this number for information, guidance, or technical support related to the scheme. The helpline will be available on working days from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM.
The Sugarcane Agricultural Mechanization Scheme is a major initiative to connect farmers with modern technology. By making advanced farm equipment available at subsidized rates, the scheme helps reduce farming difficulties and supports higher income generation. This initiative is expected to make sugarcane cultivation more efficient, affordable, and sustainable for farmers across the state.
