Crops damaged due to storm, rain, and hail in Bihar.
Govt orders physical verification of affected crops.
Compensation up to ₹10,000 per hectare under the scheme.
Aid is available for both Rayat and non-Rayat farmers.
A weather alert issued till April 19, and farmers were advised to use caution.
The recent storm, untimely rain, and hailstorms have caused heavy damage to crops across many parts of Bihar. In response, the state government has made a big announcement to support the affected farmers.
Due to sudden weather changes, including strong winds, rain, and hailstorms, crops such as wheat, garma moong, urad, sesame, maize, peanuts, tur, betel leaf, banana, and onion have been damaged. Most of these crops were at the final stage of harvesting, which worsened the losses for the farmers.
Deputy Chief Minister cum Agriculture Ministerhas directed the District Magistrates to carry out physical verification of the damaged crops. All district agriculture officers have also been instructed to conduct a detailed survey of the affected areas and send reports to the state headquarters as soon as possible.
Once the damage reports are received, the state government will release financial aid and compensation for the affected farmers without any delay.
The Agriculture Minister clearly stated that all officials must assess the real damage to crops by physically visiting the farms. This step is important so that farmers can get timely help. The government aims to speed up relief work and stands fully in support of the farmers.

To help farmers deal with such natural losses, the Bihar government is running the Chief Minister Crop Assistance Scheme. Here's how the compensation works:
If the crop damage is up to 20%, farmers will get Rs 7,500 per hectare.
If the crop damage is more than 20%, the compensation is Rs 10,000 per hectare.
Compensation is given for a maximum of 2 hectares per farmer.
Both Rayat (land-owning) and non-Rayat (tenant) farmers are eligible for this scheme.
This scheme is designed to provide relief to farmers during both Rabi and Garma crop seasons.
The Deputy Chief Minister assured that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the state government will provide all possible help to the farmers. He said that the government’s top priority is to ensure that food producers do not suffer in times of disaster.
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for lightning and storm in 26 districts of Bihar. A weather trough has formed from central Bihar to Odisha through Jharkhand. As a result:
There could be light rain, strong winds, and lightning in many areas.
This weather is expected to continue till April 19, 2025.
Farmers and citizens are advised to stay alert and take safety precautions during this period.
