  • It offers expert consulting, user training, tools and guidelines to make compliance easier.

  • ZF plans to extend its certified SUMS tools to trucks and buses.

ZF Commercial Vehicle Solutions (CVS) has launched the SUMS Service Suite. This is a toolkit made to help trailer makers follow the United Nations Regulation R156 rules. ZF’s SUMS Service Suite has five main parts. It includes the SCALAR SUMS platform, which is ISO 24089 certified. This platform helps track, manage, and check software and hardware versions.

It makes sure rules are followed, helps with certification updates, and meets cybersecurity needs under UN/ECE R156. The suite also gives expert advice, training through the SCALAR platform, and tools like checklists, templates, and guidelines to make following the rules easier.

Dr. Peter Bruns, an expert at ZF, said that as vehicles get smarter and more connected, managing software updates and meeting rules is very important. The new SUMS Service Suite helps companies handle software in a safe and smart way, ready for the future.

SUMS Service Suite Technologies

The SUMS Service Suite also includes ZF’s own technologies like the TEBS-E7 and iEBS braking systems, OptiTire TPMS, and the SmartBoard control panel. These tools help trailer makers use hardware and software that follow the rules and are ready for the future.

ZF CVS is the first major supplier in the commercial vehicle industry to get ISO 24089 certification. This shows its strong position in software and rule-following. Dr. Bruns said the certification proves their SUMS solution matches R156 rules and sets a new standard for the industry.

ZF’s all-in-one method for handling software updates puts it in a good place to offer its certified SUMS tools not just for trailers, but also for trucks and buses soon. This will help vehicle makers manage software updates more easily and with more confidence.
