VE Commercial Vehicles Limited (VECV), a joint venture between the Volvo Group and Eicher Motors, recently celebrated the 17th anniversary of its partnership by hosting H.E. Jan Thesleff, Ambassador of Sweden to India, at its manufacturing facility in Pithampur. The Ambassador was accompanied by Markus Lundgren, Counsellor and Head of the Trade Section at the Embassy of Sweden, and Sofia Högman, Swedish Trade Commissioner, Business Sweden.
Strengthening India-Sweden Relations
During the visit, Ambassador Thesleff emphasized the importance of the VECV partnership, noting that over 280 Swedish companies operate in India across various sectors, including automobiles, healthcare, and defense. These companies collectively provide more than 240,000 jobs.
The Ambassador highlighted the Eicher-Volvo joint venture as a strong example of how Sweden-India collaborations drive mutual growth and technological progress. He also praised VECV for its advanced technology products and sustainable manufacturing practices.
Technological Advancements and Global Impact
The partnership has led to the creation of world-class commercial vehicles tailored to the needs of the Indian market. This has resulted in increased sales and market share across various segments. The VE Powertrain plant, a critical part of the collaboration, has been a prime example of India-Sweden cooperation.
Since 2013, it has produced Euro 6 (BS VI) compliant engines for more than 40 countries, supporting Volvo Group’s global operations.
VECV's Role in Modernizing India's Commercial Vehicle Sector
Vinod Aggarwal, Managing Director and CEO of VECV, extended a warm welcome to the Swedish delegation. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to showcase the company’s manufacturing capabilities. Established in 2008, the joint venture has played a pivotal role in modernizing India’s commercial vehicle sector.
Aggarwal highlighted that the venture not only contributed to local industry growth but also helped Volvo Group source engines and components from India for its global operations. He credited the success of the venture to the combination of Volvo Group's technological expertise and Eicher’s understanding of the Indian market.
Sustainability and Smart Manufacturing
VECV is also committed to sustainability. VECV is leading the charge in electromobility, offering a range of electric, CNG, and LNG-fueled vehicles under both the Eicher and Volvo brands. The Eicher Pro E electric bus, launched in 2022, and the Eicher Pro 2055 EV, India’s first 5.5-tonne electric truck, introduced in 2023, demonstrate the company’s focus on clean energy solutions.
The company has embraced smart manufacturing practices, with its Bhopal plant being a standout example. Developed with Industry 4.0 principles, this plant integrates advanced technologies to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
VECV has also introduced innovative digital solutions to enhance the productivity and efficiency of its fleet. The MyEicher app and a fully connected fleet system, along with the Uptime Center, offer real-time data and predictive maintenance capabilities, ultimately reducing downtime and improving the overall performance of the vehicles. These initiatives are part of the company’s broader effort to support sustainability and reduce its carbon footprint.
