UPSRTC begins retrofitting diesel buses into electric vehicles, aiming for cleaner, safer, and cost-effective public transport in Uttar Pradesh.
UPSRTC to Convert Diesel Buses into Electric Buses for Greener Transport

Key Highlights:

  • UPSRTC has begun converting old diesel buses into electric vehicles through retrofitting.
  • Amped Retrofitment Mobility Private Limited has been approved to handle the conversion after meeting all technical standards.
  • The electric conversion replaces the engine and drivetrain.
  • Only authorised agencies can perform the retrofitting, and all components, especially batteries, undergo strict safety tests.
  • Officials say EVs offer better safety than CNG buses and will help cut emissions while improving the travel experience.

In a strong move toward cleaner and more efficient public transport, the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has started the process of converting its diesel-powered buses into electric buses. This will be done through a method called retrofitting, where old diesel engines are replaced with electric motors and batteries.

Retrofitting Gets the Green Signal

Amped Retrofitment Mobility Private Limited has been officially approved to carry out the EV conversions. The company met all the necessary technical standards. This decision came after a recent meeting of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA).

Clean, Cost-Effective Public Transport

Regional Manager Mahesh Kumar said that the shift to electric buses has already started. By phasing out diesel vehicles, UPSRTC hopes to make public transport both eco-friendly and economical in the long run. Retrofitting keeps the original bus structure, like the body, brakes, and lights. Only the engine and drivetrain are changed. This not only reduces maintenance costs but also increases the life of the vehicle.

Strict Safety and Expert Backing

Only authorised agencies are allowed to do the retrofitting. Every component, especially the batteries, goes through strict safety tests. Experts say electric buses are safer than CNG ones due to their better safety systems and certification rules.

A Step Toward a Cleaner Future

This move is expected to lower carbon emissions and improve air quality in cities. Passengers will also enjoy a quieter, smoother ride. UPSRTC’s e-bus plan is a major step toward sustainable and modern public transport in India’s largest state.

CMV360 Says

Converting old diesel buses into electric ones shows real progress toward sustainable mobility. UPSRTC’s initiative shows that sustainable change doesn’t always need new infrastructure; it can start by improving what we already have. Retrofitting offers a practical and affordable way to reduce pollution, cut operating costs, and give passengers a better, quieter ride. If all goes right and scaled up, this could become a model for other states to follow.
