Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. (TPEM), a pioneer in India's electric vehicle revolution, has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL) to develop public charging stations across India. The collaboration aims to make EV charging more accessible and convenient for Tata EV owners nationwide.
The alliance will use HPCL's extensive fuel station network and TPEM's data from over 1.2 lakh Tata EVs on Indian roads to install chargers in locations frequented by Tata EV users. In addition, HPCL will collect data on charger usage to improve the customer experience.
This partnership between TPEM and HPCL intends to improve the experience of EV owners across India by exploring opportunities between the two firms to encourage more people to use electric vehicles in the country. The two companies are also considering implementing a convenient payment system via a co-branded RFID card, making charging easier.
While TPEM is the market leader in India for EVs, with a market share of more than 68% in electric passenger vehicles, HPCL has a statewide network of over 21,500 fuel stations and is committed to a sustainable future. Furthermore, HPCL plans to create 5,000 electric vehicle charging stations by December 2024.
With four products in its portfolio, TPEM has been at the forefront of India's EV ecosystem, from opening its first EV-exclusive store in Gurugram to collaborating with multiple charge station operators to expand the country's charging infrastructure. On the other hand, HPCL has set up 3,050 EV charging stations, including battery swapping stations, throughout the country.
Here are the key details:
Leveraging Strengths:
HPCL’s Fuel Station Network: HPCL’s extensive network of over 21,500 fuel stations will be utilised to set up chargers at locations frequently visited by Tata EV owners.
TPEM’s Insights: TPEM will provide insights from its experience with over 1.2 lakh Tata EVs on Indian roads to optimize charger placement and usage.
Customer Experience Enhancement:
HPCL will gather insights on charger usage to improve the customer experience.
Strategic Importance:
As EV adoption increases, widespread and dependable charging infrastructure is crucial in making EVs mainstream in India.
