The state-of-the-art facility makes use of eco-friendly processes to disassemble end-of-life vehicles. The scrapping facility has the capacity to safely dismantle 12,000 vehicles per year.
The very first such facility by Tata Motors was launched back in February this year in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The consistent effort of Tata Motors to launch such facilities shows its commitment to sustainable mobility. Tata also has RVSFs in Bhubaneshwar and Surat.
During the inauguration, the Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility - Mr Shailesh Chandra said, “Today marks a significant milestone as we unveil the scrappage facility in Chandigarh. The cutting-edge and fully digitalised facility is equipped with dedicated cell-type dismantling for commercial vehicles and line-type dismantling for passenger vehicles. The facility also includes dedicated stations for the safe dismantling of vehicle components such as tyres, oils, liquids, fuel, batteries and gases.
To ensure the safe disposal of all vehicle components and maximum attention to detail, every vehicle undergoes paperless documentation and a meticulous dismantling process specifically designed to meet the requirements of that vehicle.
Mr Shailesh further added, “The establishment of the fourth such facility is a testament to our relentless pursuit of reducing carbon emissions, promoting a circular economy and cultivating a culture of recycling. By encouraging vehicle owners to retire their older, more polluting commercial and passenger vehicles, we are taking a monumental leap towards a more sustainable future. Through this initiative, we aspire to drive the adoption of newer, safer and more fuel-efficient vehicles, in alignment with our vision of a cleaner and healthier planet.”
The state of the art Re.Wi.Re facility is operated and developed by Tata Motors' partner Dada Trading Company. The facility is equipped with tools to scrap commercial vehicles and passenger vehicles of any and all brands. The facility aligns with Tata Motors' vision to promote environmentally friendly practices within the automotive industry.
