SWITCH Mobility and Adhiyamaan College of Engineering in Hosur have joined hands to establish a dedicated Electric Vehicle (EV) Skill Development Centre at the college. The initiative aims to prepare students and other stakeholders for the growing demand for skilled professionals in India’s electric mobility sector, with a particular focus on electric commercial vehicle technologies.
The two organisations have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop the centre, bringing together SWITCH Mobility’s industry expertise and the college’s academic capabilities. The facility will focus on practical, industry-oriented learning to help bridge the gap between classroom education and the technical requirements of the EV industry.
Centre to Focus on Electric Commercial Vehicle Technology
The proposed centre will offer training across key areas of electric mobility, including EV systems, battery technologies, charging infrastructure and power electronics. It will also introduce learners to emerging mobility solutions and the practical operation of electric commercial vehicle technologies.
Unlike a purely academic programme, the centre is expected to provide hands-on industrial exposure. This approach will allow students and other participants to gain a better understanding of how EV technologies are applied in real-world commercial vehicle operations.
SWITCH Mobility Chief Commercial Officer R G Venkataraman said the company would contribute its technical expertise and support under the partnership. The collaboration is designed to combine industry knowledge with academic learning and provide participants with meaningful practical exposure.
Building a Skilled EV Workforce
Adhiyamaan College of Engineering will provide the academic environment for the facility, while SWITCH Mobility will support the programme with industry knowledge and technical expertise. The college expects the centre to create a practical learning ecosystem where students can gain direct exposure to modern EV technologies.
The initiative also addresses a wider requirement of the electric mobility sector: developing a workforce equipped with skills relevant to rapidly evolving EV technologies. As electric commercial vehicles become an important part of India's mobility transition, specialised technical knowledge in areas such as batteries, power electronics and charging systems is becoming increasingly important.
The collaboration is therefore intended to strengthen the EV talent pipeline by connecting education with real-world industry requirements. Through practical training and exposure to commercial EV technologies, the centre is expected to contribute to the development of skilled professionals for India's expanding electric vehicle industry.
