SWITCH Mobility Secures 840 Electric Bus Order Under PM E-Drive for Delhi

SWITCH Mobility has secured an order for 840 electric buses under the Government of India’s PM E-Drive scheme Phase I tender. The buses will be deployed in Delhi with the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and the Transport Department, Delhi, as part of the city’s electric public transport expansion.

The order has been placed by Antony Road Transport Solutions, which has been selected as the operator for Delhi under the CESL PM E-Drive Scheme Phase I tender. SWITCH Mobility and Antony Road Transport Solutions have also signed an agreement for the deployment of the electric buses.

840 Electric Buses to Be Deployed in Delhi

The order includes an equal mix of two bus sizes:

• 420 units of 9-metre AC electric buses

• 420 units of 12-metre AC electric buses

• Total: 840 electric buses

The combination of 9-metre and 12-metre buses is intended to meet different passenger transport requirements across Delhi. The buses will operate through DTC and the Delhi Transport Department, expanding the availability of electric buses for public transportation in the capital.

SWITCH Mobility CEO Ganesh Mani said the deployment will include both 9-metre and 12-metre electric buses across Delhi. According to the company, using two different bus sizes will allow the fleet to address varying passenger transport needs and operating requirements.

SWITCH Mobility Electric Buses Based on EiV Platform

The 9-metre and 12-metre electric buses are built on SWITCH Mobility's EiV platform. The platform uses modular battery configurations along with electric powertrains and regenerative braking technology.

The buses also feature dual-gun fast charging, which is designed to reduce charging turnaround time. Faster charging can help improve fleet utilisation by allowing buses to return to operations more quickly.

For passengers, the buses come with features such as low-floor access, USB charging and dedicated seating. These features are aimed at making daily public transport more convenient and accessible.

Safety and Fleet Management Features

Safety is another key part of the electric buses. SWITCH Mobility has equipped them with fire detection and suppression systems, along with multi-level battery protection.

The buses also use SWITCH iON, the company's connected vehicle and fleet management system. It provides real-time vehicle monitoring, diagnostics and fleet management capabilities, allowing operators to track and manage buses during daily operations.

Antony Road Transport Solutions Places Order

Antony Road Transport Solutions will operate the buses in Delhi under the PM E-Drive programme. Director Jimmy John said the company's existing relationship with Ashok Leyland and its association with the Hinduja Group contributed to the decision to place the order with SWITCH Mobility.

The agreement brings together three key stakeholders in Delhi's electric public transport deployment: SWITCH Mobility as the electric bus manufacturer, Antony Road Transport Solutions as the fleet operator, and Delhi's public transport authorities for deployment and operations.

PM E-Drive to Support Delhi's Electric Bus Deployment

The 840-bus order marks a significant deployment of electric buses in Delhi under the PM E-Drive scheme. With an equal mix of 9-metre and 12-metre AC electric buses, the deployment is designed to support different passenger transport requirements while adding more zero-emission buses to the city's public transport fleet.

With features including fast charging, regenerative braking, battery safety systems and connected fleet monitoring, the SWITCH Mobility buses are set to combine electric powertrain technology with operational and passenger-focused features for deployment across Delhi.
