Mercedes-Benz Trucks Introduces Next-Generation Actros L Heavy Truck

Mercedes-Benz Trucks has unveiled the new Actros L heavy truck, powered by diesel engines. Since its premiere in June 2021, the Actros L has characterized Mercedes-Benz Trucks' premium niche of big diesel-powered trucks. 

This latest-generation model elevates its flagship to new heights with futuristic vehicle design, optimized aerodynamics, various comfort features, efficient engines, high levels of driving dynamics, and the most advanced support systems. The new Actros L with ProCabin is available for order beginning from this month that is April 2024 and will be produced in December 2024.

Rainer Muller-Finkeldei, Head of Development at Mercedes-Benz Trucks, stated, "We always aim to provide our customers with the best vehicle solutions for all drive technologies. The typical diesel-powered vehicle will also remain indispensable in different parts of the world for some time to come. In many ways, the new Actros L improves on our tried-and-true flagship model. This is already evident in the new cab design."

Features of the Truck

Aerodynamic Features:
•    Pre-spoiler and Roof Spoiler: The design includes a pre-spoiler on the roof ahead of the main roof spoiler.
•    A-Pillar Deflector Panels: Panels around the side windows aid in aerodynamics.
•    Front-End Flap: The cab features a large, flat front-end flap for aerodynamic optimization.
•    Optimized Bumper: Designed with minimal air inlet openings for cooling.
•    Underbody Panelling: New panelling enhances aerodynamics further.

Aerodynamic Streamlining: The airflow encounters an extended front by 80 millimeters, guiding it optimally around the vehicle. This includes a streamlined entrance, improved wheel-arch trim, and optimized side trim.

Seamless Design: There are minimal gaps or spaces to disrupt airflow, ensuring maximum efficiency.

Extended Side Deflectors: Designed like sails to facilitate a smooth transition between the truck and attached semi-trailer.

Engine Compartment Seals: Various seals are utilized to separate the engine compartment from external airflow, contributing to aerodynamic efficiency.

Fuel Savings: Overall, these aerodynamic enhancements result in fuel savings of up to three percent in the new Actros L.

Exterior, Interior, and Comfort

Mercedes-Benz Trucks recognizes that besides efficiency and cost-effectiveness, factors like attractive exterior and driver comfort significantly influence vehicle purchasing decisions. The new Actros L boasts a futuristic cab design, blending style with functionality.

ProCabin Interior: Available in three variants – Stream, Big, or Giga Space – prioritizing driver comfort.

Enhanced Comfort Features:
•    Optimized Seat Heating: Ensures maximum comfort during journeys.
•    Premium Seat Covers: New flat-woven covers add a touch of luxury.
•    Improved Sleeping Arrangements: Bunks with full slatted frames and a thick premium mattress offer quality rest.
•    Enhanced Switch Panels: Increased functionality for better control.
•    Ambient Lighting: Creates a pleasant atmosphere within the cabin.
•    Gooseneck LED Reading Lamps: Additional lighting for reading or working.

Additional Equipment Features:
•    USB-C Sockets: Convenient charging points in the side walls.
•    Two-Tone Design Curtain: Adds style and privacy to the interior.
•    Second Refrigerator: Provides extra storage for food and drinks.
•    230-Volt Socket: Offers versatility for powering devices.
•    SoloStar Concept: Available in two new seat cover variants, enhancing personalization options.

Overall, these features aim to ensure that drivers experience both practicality and luxury during their time on the road.

OM 471 Diesel Engine

Mercedes-Benz Trucks saves fuel in the new Actros L with the third-gen OM 471 diesel engine. Alongside aerodynamic improvements, this engine is designed for efficiency and cost savings. It maintains performance and comfort while reducing fuel consumption, CO2 emissions, and operating costs. 

The latest OM 471 features two new turbochargers tailored to customer needs, emphasizing fuel efficiency. In long-haul setups, it achieves up to four percent better fuel economy compared to previous models, thanks to a revised exhaust gas aftertreatment system.
