MAHLE will supply advanced components for MAN’s new hydrogen-powered hTGX truck.

Key Highlights:

  • MAHLE will supply key parts for the hydrogen-powered MAN hTGX truck.
  • The MAN hTGX won the Truck Innovation Award 2025 for zero-emission goals.
  • It has six-cylinder engine and delivers 513 bhp power.
  • MAN plans to produce 200 hTGX units by 2025.
  • MAHLE’s tech ensures high performance with minimal hydrogen leakage.

MAHLE has been awarded an important contract by MAN Truck & Bus. Under this contract, MAHLE will supply advanced components for MAN’s new hydrogen-powered hTGX truck. This truck, which recently won the Truck Innovation Award 2025, is set to play a key role in sustainable, zero-emission transportation.

Powerful Engine Design and Planned Production

The 6-cylinder direct-injection engine has a 16.8-liter capacity and generates 383 kW of power. It will feature MAHLE's hydrogen power cell unit, which includes the piston, piston rings, piston pin, and cylinder liner. Additional MAHLE parts will also be used in the engine's valve train.

MAN intends to manufacture around 200 units of this hydrogen truck for selective markets from 2025. This launch is expected to be a critical move toward zero-emission solutions in heavy-duty transport.

Using hydrogen in combustion engines is a main approach to reducing carbon emissions, especially in commercial vehicles. Alongside electric options, MAHLE is focusing on sustainable combustion engines that can run on renewable fuels as part of its strategy.

MAHLE's Technology for Hydrogen Engine Reliability

Dr. Roger Busch from MAHLE highlighted that their hydrogen engine technology meets rigorous standards for performance, efficiency, and durability.

MAHLE has successfully developed engine components that meet the needs of hydrogen-powered engines. Tests at their hydrogen test center in Stuttgart show that the technology is ready for mass production. The MAHLE hydrogen power cell unit helps reduce oil consumption and hydrogen leakage, ensuring the engine runs smoothly and reliably.

Hydrogen is a new renewable fuel that can help reduce emissions in the transportation sector. MAHLE is ready to support this change with its expertise and parts for hydrogen engines and fuel cells.

Currently, MAHLE is working on nearly 30 hydrogen engine projects for different customers. With a new contract from MAN Truck & Bus, another vehicle maker is starting mass production using MAHLE parts. More projects with other customers are expected in 2025.
