After Muhammad's departure in 1948, the company was renamed Mahindra & Mahindra. The tractor division began in 1963 through a joint venture with International Harvester, which led to the production of the first Mahindra-branded tractors for Indian agriculture. Mahindra Tractors was formally established in 1977.
