IntrCity launches SmartBus.AQI with real-time air monitoring and advanced purification to reduce in-cabin pollution on major North India routes, ensuring cleaner and safer long-distance travel.
IntrCity Launches India’s First Air-Purified Intercity Bus Fleet to Ensure Cleaner Travel

Key Highlights

  • India’s first air-purified intercity bus fleet.

  • PM2.5 levels were maintained around 15 µg/m³.

  • Real-time AQI data on the bus and app.

  • AI-powered filtration and monitoring.

  • Available on major North India routes.

IntrCity SmartBus has launched its new SmartBus.AQI fleet, a first-of-its-kind initiative designed to improve in-cabin air quality for long-distance passengers. This fleet comes with built-in air purification and monitoring systems, offering a safer and more comfortable travel experience, especially on high-pollution routes across North India.

Why the New AQI-Enabled Buses Matter

IntrCity conducted detailed air-quality checks across several intercity routes. These tests showed that in-cabin pollution levels were 2–3 times higher than the safe limits set by the World Health Organization (WHO). This raised health concerns for regular travelers.

To solve this, IntrCity partnered with Respirer Living Sciences, a ClimateTech company known for its advanced air-quality monitoring and clean-air solutions. Together, they developed a smart, AI-based purification system for buses.

What is the SmartBus.AQI Offers

The air-purified buses come with a powerful filtration setup designed to fight harmful pollutants like:

  • PM2.5 particles

  • Carbon dioxide (CO₂)

  • Dust and smoke

  • Other invisible toxins inside the cabin

During pilot testing, the new system successfully maintained PM2.5 levels at around 15 µg/m³ for over 90% of the journey time, which matches the WHO’s 24-hour safe air standard.

Passengers can even check real-time air quality data—including AQI and PM2.5 levels—directly on the bus screens or via the IntrCity app.

Technology Behind the Clean-Air System

The purification technology uses:

  • AI-powered monitoring

  • Patent-pending demand-controlled filtration

  • Energy-recovery systems to maintain clean air without high power use

This ensures continuous purification during the entire journey.

Where the New Buses Are Available

The first set of AQI-enabled SmartBuses has been deployed on pollution-heavy routes in North India, covering major cities such as:

  • Lucknow

  • Kanpur

  • Katra

  • Pathankot

While booking tickets on the IntrCity app or website, passengers can spot the air-purified buses through the “.AQI” tag next to the bus name.

About IntrCity SmartBus

IntrCity currently operates across 630+ routes in 15 states. The company is known for adding premium comfort features such as:

  • Onboard washrooms

  • Lounge-style boarding

  • Digital check-ins

To help travelers understand the new technology better, IntrCity has also launched a dedicated microsite.

CMV360 Says

IntrCity’s new SmartBus.AQI fleet marks a major step forward in cleaner and safer intercity travel in India. By integrating real-time air monitoring and advanced purification systems, the company is directly addressing high in-cabin pollution levels seen on long routes. The partnership with Respirer Living Sciences strengthens the technology behind this initiative, giving passengers a healthier travel environment. This rollout sets a new benchmark for comfort, safety, and innovation in bus travel.
