Amara Raja Infra, a subsidiary of the Amara Raja Group, has completed the set up of India’s first green hydrogen fuelling station in Leh, Ladakh. The project was undertaken for NTPC Ltd. to promote emission-free transportation in the region, marking a significant step in advancing green mobility. 

Comprehensive Project Execution 

Amara Raja Infra handled the project’s design, engineering, supply, construction, testing, and commissioning. The company will also provide operational and maintenance support for three years, ensuring seamless functionality on a turnkey basis. 

Inauguration by Union Power Minister 

The station was inaugurated by Union Power Minister and Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal. Following its launch, NTPC will deploy five hydrogen fuel cell buses to operate in Leh and nearby areas. 

Capacity and Challenging Conditions 

The hydrogen station has the capacity to produce 80 kilograms of green hydrogen daily. The project was completed over two years despite tough conditions, including an altitude of 3,400 meters and temperatures ranging from -25°C to 30°C. 

Entry into Green Hydrogen Infrastructure 

Dwarakanadha Reddy, Business Head (Power EPC) at ARIPL, stated that the project showcases the company’s expertise in EPC projects and marks its entry into the green hydrogen sector. 

Contribution to the National Hydrogen Energy Mission 

This station is expected to serve as a model for future green hydrogen projects in India. It aligns with the National Hydrogen Energy Mission, offering insights into hydrogen infrastructure development and deployment across the country.
