IndianOil Delivers Green Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus to Indian Navy

Key Highlights:

  • IndianOil gave a green hydrogen bus to the Indian Navy and signed an MoU.
  • Admiral Tripathi said the Navy will test and expand eco-friendly transport.
  • IndianOil runs 15 fuel cell buses in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat.

IndianOil has handed over a cutting-edge green hydrogen fuel cell bus to the Indian Navy. This occasion was highlighted by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IndianOil and the Indian Navy to deploy hydrogen fuel cell technology for heavy-duty e-mobility.

Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of Naval Staff of the Indian Navy, stated, "We will be testing one of the hydrogen buses and looking forward to deploying environment-friendly transportation in larger numbers, and I must thank IndianOil for choosing the Indian Navy as their partner."

S M Vaidya, Chairman of IndianOil, stated, "As we continue to help our military forces with creative, forward-thinking solutions that meet tomorrow's needs. IndianOil has been at the forefront of advancing green hydrogen and fuel cell technologies.”

IndianOil presently operates 15 fuel cell buses in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat, totalling 300,000 kilometers, with each bus planned to go at least 20,000 kilometers, according to the news release.

The study will evaluate the performance of fuel cell electric buses for public transit in the difficult climatic conditions of the Delhi-NCR region, as well as the impact of local fuel and air quality on fuel cell systems and vehicles.

Furthermore, it will assess the effectiveness, longevity, and operational dependability of fuel cell buses designed for use in public fleets.

CMV360 Says

This partnership between IndianOil and the Indian Navy is a great step for sustainable transportation. But, the real challenge is building the infrastructure needed for hydrogen fuel cells.

While these buses are a good start, we need more investment and government support to make green hydrogen a practical choice for public and heavy-duty transport in India. It will be interesting to see if this initiative can overcome these challenges and really change the transportation sector.
