41 electric buses planned across Rajasthan operations.
First fleet launched at Debari plant, Udaipur.
Over 11,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions reduction expected.
Replacing diesel buses to cut Scope 3 emissions.
Supports the Net Zero target by 2050 or earlier.
Hindustan Zinc Limited has taken a major step towards sustainable transportation by launching Rajasthan’s first and largest electric bus fleet. The initiative was flagged off at the Zinc Smelter Debari plant in Udaipur in partnership with Enviiiro Wheels Mobility Pvt. Ltd..
This move marks a key milestone in the company’s green mobility journey and aligns with its long-term climate goals.
The newly launched fleet is part of a larger plan to deploy 41 electric buses across Hindustan Zinc’s operations in Rajasthan. These buses will mainly be used for employee transportation, replacing conventional diesel buses.
The shift is expected to significantly reduce emissions linked to daily commuting, which falls under Scope 3 emissions, one of the hardest areas for industries to control.
By switching from diesel to electric buses, the company aims to cut down more than 11,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent emissions over the contract period.
This is a practical step towards turning climate commitments into measurable action. The rollout at the Debari plant is the first phase of this larger green transport initiative.
Speaking at the launch, Arun Misra highlighted the company’s long-term vision. He said the transition to electric mobility reflects a new way of thinking about industrial growth, where sustainability and operations go hand in hand.
He also emphasized that this initiative supports the company’s goal of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050 or earlier.
The effort is aligned with Hindustan Zinc’s membership in the International Council on Mining and Metals, which promotes responsible mining practices worldwide.
Hindustan Zinc has been steadily working on reducing its carbon footprint through multiple initiatives:
Renewable energy now contributes nearly 18% of its total power mix.
A major 530 MW round-the-clock renewable energy agreement is in place.
This agreement is expected to meet over 70% of the company’s power needs.
Renewable energy supply under this deal has already started.
These steps show a clear shift towards cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.
The company’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. Hindustan Zinc has been ranked as the world’s most sustainable metals and mining company for the third consecutive year in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2025.
This recognition reflects its strong focus on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) practices and innovation.
With investments in electric mobility, renewable energy, and efficiency improvements, Hindustan Zinc is building a low-carbon industrial ecosystem.
The launch of Rajasthan’s first EV bus fleet is not just about transportation; it reflects a larger shift towards sustainable operations, proving that industrial growth and environmental responsibility can move forward together.
