Henkel launches India’s first mid-haul re-powered electric truck operations, promoting sustainable logistics with EV trucks on key industrial routes to cut emissions and support net-zero goals.
Henkel Launches India’s First Mid-Haul Re-Powered Electric Truck for Greener Logistics

Key Highlights:

  • Henkel has started India’s first mid-haul re-powered electric truck operations for commercial logistics.
  • The trucks will run on two pilot routes: Chennai–Pune and Pune–Halol.
  • Each truck has a payload capacity of 8 tons and can run 250 km on a single charge.
  • One round trip between Chennai and Pune can save around 1,212 kg of greenhouse gas emissions.
  • This move supports Henkel’s goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2045.

Henkel Adhesive Technologies has taken a significant step toward greener logistics in India by introducing the country’s first mid-haul re-powered electric truck operations. This initiative, launched in collaboration with a logistics partner and an electric vehicle retrofitting firm, marks a major development in the journey toward low-emission commercial transport.

Driving Change in Freight Movement

The newly introduced electric trucks will operate along two pilot routes: Chennai to Pune, covering 1,321 km, and Pune to Halol, spanning 713 km. These routes are part of India’s key industrial corridors, and Henkel aims to promote more sustainable freight practices across long distances.

Each re-powered truck is equipped with a fully electric powertrain and delivers a payload capacity of up to 8 tons. With a range of 250 km per charge, these trucks are designed for mid-haul operations. According to Henkel, a single round trip between Chennai and Pune could save about 1,212 kilograms of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, showing the clear environmental benefit of this move.

Part of a Larger Sustainability Goal

Henkel has made climate action a core part of its long-term strategy. The company has set an ambitious target to reach net-zero emissions by 2045. This includes aiming for significant reductions in scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. In a statement, Henkel said, “This shift from conventional drivetrains toward sustainable alternatives such as re-powered electric trucks will go a long way in abating our logistics emissions.”

The company is also working on improving product design, choosing low-emission raw materials, and promoting carbon-efficient practices across its entire supply chain to further cut emissions.

Henkel’s move to deploy re-powered electric trucks is a smart and timely shift for India’s logistics sector. It shows how established industries can take bold steps toward cleaner transport without waiting for new vehicles. This approach not only reduces emissions but also gives older trucks a second life in a more sustainable form.
