Key Highlights:
Greaves Electric Mobility, known for its brands Ampere, Ele, Greaves, and Eltra, is set to more than double its three-wheeler production capacity across its factories in Telangana and Uttar Pradesh by 2027.
Expansion Plans for Key Plants
The company operates three plants: Ranipet in Tamil Nadu, Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh, and Toopran in Telangana. Greaves Electric plans to increase the capacity at its Greater Noida plant to 45,896 units, up from 21,514 units, and expand the Toopran plant capacity to 34,800 units from 13,538 units.
Investment in Capacity Boost
The company will invest Rs 20 crore in Greater Noida and Rs 38 crore in Toopran. These funds will come from the proposed public offering, supporting the increased production and potential new model launches.
Changes at Ranipet and New Battery Assembly Line
While there are no plans to expand two-wheeler manufacturing at the Ranipet plant, which currently has a capacity of 4.80 lakh units, a new battery pack assembly line will be set up there. With an annual capacity of 400,000 units, this line will be ready by May 2026 and begin commercial production in July 2026.
Product Portfolio and Sales Growth
Greaves Electric's Eltra brand offers two medium-speed three-wheeler models, priced from Rs 3.80 lakh. The Greaves brand also sells diesel and CNG three-wheelers, starting at Rs 2.90 lakh. The Ele brand focuses on electric rickshaws, with prices starting at Rs 1.30 lakh.
In the fiscal year 2023-24, three-wheelers accounted for 28% of the company's revenue. Greaves Electric sold 13,470 three-wheelers, a significant increase from the previous year’s 6,870 units. Meanwhile, sales of Ampere electric two-wheelers have declined, falling to 47,820 units from 1.09 lakh units in 2022-23.
About Greaves Electric
Greaves Electric is part of Greaves Cotton Ltd. The company manufactures electric two-wheelers under the Ampere brand. It also produces electric, diesel, and CNG three-wheelers under the Ele, Greaves, and Eltra brands.

CMV360 Says
Greaves Electric’s plan to increase its three-wheeler production is a good move, especially with more people looking for electric vehicles these days. This expansion will help the company meet the growing demand and stay competitive. Investing in a new battery assembly line shows they’re focused on the future. However, the decline in two-wheeler sales for the Ampere brand is something to keep an eye on. Still, focusing on three-wheelers seems like a smart strategy that could really pay off for Greaves in the long run.
