India’s three-wheeler retail sales stood at 98,866 units in September 2025, marking a 4.11% month-on-month (MoM) and 7.20% year-on-year (YoY) decline. While overall numbers dropped slightly, certain categories and brands like Mahindra and TVS continued to show strong momentum in both electric and ICE segments.

Total Three-Wheelers (3W): In September 2025, total three-wheeler sales stood at 98,866 units, down from 1,03,105 units in August 2025 and 1,06,534 units in September 2024. This shows a 4.11% month-on-month (MoM) decline and a 7.20% year-on-year (YoY) drop. The overall dip reflects slower retail momentum during the month, though the segment remains stable ahead of the festive season.
E-Rickshaw (Passenger): The passenger e-rickshaw segment recorded 34,083 units in September 2025, compared to 36,969 units in August 2025 and 44,044 units in September 2024. This translates to a 7.81% MoM fall and a significant 22.62% YoY decline, showing reduced retail activity and possible inventory corrections in the electric passenger category.
E-Rickshaw with Cart (Goods): Sales of goods e-rickshaws reached 6,031 units in September 2025, slightly lower than 6,213 units in August 2025 but much higher than 4,570 units a year ago. The category saw a 2.93% MoM decline but an impressive 31.97% YoY growth, highlighting increased demand for compact electric goods carriers in small business and delivery use.
Three-Wheeler (Goods Carrier): The goods carrier segment posted 9,569 units in September 2025, down from 9,697 units in August 2025 but up from 9,116 units in September 2024. This represents a 1.32% MoM dip but a healthy 4.97% YoY growth, indicating a steady market for commercial load-carrying three-wheelers.
Three-Wheeler (Passenger Carrier): Passenger carrier sales were 49,045 units in September 2025, slightly below 50,100 units in August 2025 but marginally above 48,717 units last year. The segment reported a 2.11% MoM decrease and a 0.67% YoY increase, showing stability in urban and semi-urban passenger transport demand.
Three-Wheeler (Personal Use): Although small in volume, the personal-use three-wheeler segment registered 138 units in September 2025, up from 126 units in August 2025 and 87 units a year earlier. This indicates a 9.52% MoM rise and a strong 58.62% YoY jump, reflecting growing niche interest among individual users in personal mobility three-wheelers.

Bajaj Auto retained its leadership in the three-wheeler market during September 2025 with 34,792 units sold, commanding a 35.19% market share. In September 2024, Bajaj sold 37,426 units, holding a 35.13% share. Although the brand saw a slight volume dip, it continues to dominate the segment with its popular passenger and goods carriers that are known for reliability and wide market reach.
Mahindra & Mahindra recorded 8,861 units in September 2025, up from 6,718 units in September 2024. Its market share improved to 8.96%, compared to 6.31% a year ago. The brand’s strong performance is driven by its versatile range of diesel, CNG, and electric three-wheelers catering to passenger and cargo needs.
Mahindra Last Mile Mobility continued its impressive growth with 8,850 units sold in September 2025, up from 6,635 units last year. The company held an 8.95% market share, compared to 6.23% in September 2024. The brand’s focus on sustainable last-mile electric solutions has been key to its expanding presence across major Indian cities.
A smaller division under Mahindra sold 11 units this month, compared to 83 units in September 2024. Though the sales volume is minimal, this category represents Mahindra’s niche experimental and regional operations in the 3W market.
Piaggio sold 5,803 units in September 2025, securing a 5.87% market share, down from 7,780 units and a 7.30% share in September 2024. The company saw a slowdown due to rising competition in both the passenger and cargo segments, though it continues to maintain a strong presence with its reliable Ape lineup.
TVS Motor registered significant growth, retailing 4,317 units in September 2025 — more than double compared to 2,011 units last year. Its market share jumped from 1.89% to 4.37%, reflecting strong customer acceptance of its expanding electric and ICE-based three-wheeler portfolio.
YC Electric recorded 3,209 units in September 2025 with a 3.25% market share, slightly below 3,827 units and 3.59% share in September 2024. Despite the drop, the company remains a key player in the passenger e-rickshaw category, supported by affordable and efficient EV models.
Atul Auto maintained stable performance, selling 2,358 units in September 2025, up from 2,181 units a year ago. The company’s market share increased slightly to 2.39%, showing steady demand for its durable three-wheelers, particularly in rural and semi-urban markets.
Saera Electric sold 1,627 units in September 2025, compared to 2,515 units last year. Its market share dropped to 1.65% from 2.36%, reflecting tough competition in the e-rickshaw space. However, Saera continues to focus on expanding its electric product range to recover market momentum.
Dilli Electric retailed 1,535 units in September 2025, a decrease from 2,097 units in the same month last year. The company’s market share declined slightly to 1.55% from 1.97%, though it remains active in affordable electric mobility solutions for short-distance travel.
All other manufacturers combined contributed 36,364 units in September 2025, capturing 36.78% market share compared to 41,979 units and 39.40% share last year. This category includes several smaller and emerging EV players catering to regional and rural demand across India.
