The Delhi Transport Department recently launched a new bus route, 605B, along with extensions to two existing routes, 623 and 610A. These changes aim to improve connectivity and make public transport more accessible for Delhi's residents. Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot inaugurated the services, demonstrating the government’s commitment to expanding and enhancing Delhi's public transit network.

New Route 605B

The new Route 605B will run with two air-conditioned electric buses operated by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). Covering a distance of 15 kilometers, it connects Safdarjung Terminal to Nangal Dewat. This route includes important stops such as:

  • Safdarjung Hospital
  • AIIMS Metro Station
  • Green Park Metro Station
  • JNU (Jawaharlal Nehru University)
  • Manav Sthali School

This route provides key access to healthcare and educational centers, which will benefit daily commuters, students, and residents in nearby areas. The addition of electric buses on this route also highlights Delhi's ongoing shift towards more sustainable public transportation.

Extension of Route 623

Route 623, which previously ended at CPWD in Vasant Vihar, has now been extended to reach Nangal Dewat. This extension adds 33.7 km to the route, providing a broader coverage area and offering residents more travel options. The extended route features a 20 buses, including:

  • 16 electric air-conditioned (AC) buses
  • 3 AC buses powered by CNG
  • 1 non-AC CNG bus

Key stops along this extended route include ISIC Hospital, AIIMS, Khan Market, India Gate, Lodhi Road, and Shahdara. This route extension serves several popular locations, enhancing connectivity for passengers traveling to and from central and south Delhi.

Extension of Route 610A

Route 610A has also been extended to address specific transportation needs of residents in Munirka. Previously, this route ended at RK Puram Sector-1, but it now stretches to Nangal Dewat, adding a new 27 km segment that links Anand Parvat and Nangal Dewat. This extension was implemented in response to requests from local residents, particularly athletes, who faced challenges reaching their training locations.

Official Statement and Government's Vision

MLAs Parmila Tokas and Bhupinder Singh Joon were also present at the event. Minister Kailash Gahlot expressed that the new and extended routes are part of the government's continuous efforts to create a reliable, eco-friendly, and accessible public transit system for everyone. He emphasized their focus on boosting connectivity, especially in areas that require better transportation options, to support students, athletes, and daily travelers.
