Welcome to the CMV360 Weekly Wrap-Up for 6th to 12th July 2025 – your one-stop summary of the biggest stories in commercial vehicles, electric mobility, and agriculture.

This week, legal EV manufacturers raised serious concerns over illegal e-rickshaws and low-quality imports disrupting the market and hurting MSMEs. Meanwhile, commercial and three-wheeler vehicle sales saw year-on-year growth, with Mahindra, Ashok Leyland, and Bajaj posting strong numbers. Tata Motors made headlines with the launch of the ACE Pro mini truck, aiming to support small businesses.

In the green mobility space, India accelerated its shift toward clean fuels like electric, hydrogen, and LNG. UPSRTC began converting diesel buses into EVs, and Omega Seiki announced global expansion plans. On the farming front, Mahindra rolled out its advanced mLIFT hydraulics in Rajasthan, and tractor sales soared past 1.21 lakh units in June, driven by early monsoon and robust Kharif sowing.

Let’s dive into all the key developments shaping India’s future in mobility and agriculture.

EV Manufacturers Raise Alarm Over Illegal E-Rickshaws and Poor-Quality Imports

Over 4.75 lakh illegal e-rickshaws are operating without registration, posing safety threats and hurting MSMEs. EVMS raised concerns over rising low-quality Chinese imports, which now dominate the market. Legal EV makers are losing business and jobs due to weak enforcement. Indian suppliers' market share has dropped below 35%. EVMS demands strict regulations, scrapping unfit vehicles, fitness checks, and tighter import control to protect public safety and support domestic manufacturing in line with the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission.

FADA Sales Report June 2025: CV sales increased by 6.60% YoY

Commercial vehicle sales reached 73,367 units in June 2025, showing a 6.60% YoY rise but a 2.97% MoM decline. Mahindra, Ashok Leyland, and Switch Mobility posted strong growth, while Tata Motors saw a drop. Switch Mobility rose from 43 to 159 units. Light and medium commercial vehicles showed steady gains, though heavy CV sales declined slightly. SML Isuzu posted marginally lower sales. Overall, the CV segment remains strong, with most OEMs improving performance compared to June 2024.

FADA Sales Report June 2025: Three-wheeler YoY sales increased by 6.68%

Three-wheeler sales reached 1,00,625 units in June 2025, marking a 6.68% YoY rise but a 3.66% drop from May. Passenger three-wheeler sales grew 14.44% YoY, while e-rickshaws with carts jumped 48.50% YoY despite a monthly dip. Bajaj led with 36,140 units, followed by Mahindra and TVS, all showing strong YoY growth. Though some segments declined month-on-month, overall demand remains strong, especially in last-mile mobility. FADA sees this as a sign of continued market recovery.

Truck Makers in India Switch to Cleaner Fuels Like Electric, Hydrogen, and LNG

India’s CV makers are moving from diesel to cleaner fuels like electric, hydrogen, LNG, and CNG to cut costs and emissions. Tata Motors is testing hydrogen and electric trucks, including a 55-tonne EV with 330 km range. Ashok Leyland is also piloting hydrogen trucks and has launched electric port vehicles. IKEA and BLR Logistiks saw a 16% cost saving after 100 EV truck trips. With government support and rising environmental concerns, green freight adoption in India is accelerating.

UPSRTC to Convert Diesel Buses into Electric Buses for Greener Transport

UPSRTC has begun converting old diesel buses into electric vehicles through retrofitting. Amped Mobility is approved for this task, replacing engines and drivetrains with electric systems. Only authorised agencies can retrofit, and all components, especially batteries, must pass safety tests. EVs are considered safer than CNG buses and offer lower emissions, reduced maintenance, and smoother rides. This eco-friendly initiative by UPSRTC aims to modernise public transport and could become a model for other states to follow.

Omega Seiki Mobility Expands Globally with New UAE Plant and Upcoming Electric Buses & Trucks

Omega Seiki Mobility is expanding globally with a new UAE factory set to open by November for exports to Africa and the Middle East. It will launch a 9-metre electric bus for government use within a year and a luxury e-bus for intercity travel in 18 months. The company will also launch the MK1A electric truck under ₹7 lakh and introduce CNG three-wheelers in six months. With growing exports, new models, and a green fuel focus, OSM is rapidly scaling its EV presence.

PM E-DRIVE Scheme: Government Rolls Out Subsidy Plan for Electric Trucks

The government has allocated ₹500 crore under the PM E-DRIVE scheme to support 5,643 electric trucks in FY2026. Subsidies up to ₹9.6 lakh are available based on battery size and truck category, but only with a valid Certificate of Deposit from scrapping an old vehicle. Trucks must carry a 5-year warranty. This move promotes clean freight transport, while subsidies for two- and three-wheelers are being phased out. The scheme aims to cut emissions and modernise India’s logistics sector.

Tractor Makers Urge Government to Delay TREM V Norms Rollout

India’s tractor makers have urged the government to delay the April 2026 rollout of TREM V emission norms, warning of a 15% price hike. Most Indian farmers use sub-50 HP tractors, and this hike could burden small and marginal farmers. With India’s farm mechanization at just 47%, the industry fears slowed adoption. Unlike Europe’s 200+ HP tractors, India’s market is different, making global norms less practical. The government is reviewing a report to decide on a possible delay.

FADA Retail Tractor Sales Report June 2025: Mahindra Leads with Over 17,500 Units, 77,214 Units Total Sold

India recorded retail tractor sales of 77,214 units in June 2025, up from 71,047 in June 2024. Mahindra & Mahindra led with 17,518 units, followed by Swaraj with 14,286 units. Sonalika, TAFE, Escorts, and John Deere also showed positive year-on-year growth. However, Kubota saw a sharp decline, selling only 635 units versus 1,223 last year. The market saw healthy overall growth, reflecting steady demand for farm machinery across India despite varied performances among brands.

Sonalika celebrated its 2nd Annual Manufacturing Day in April 2025, recognising teams for innovations in engine performance, aesthetics, and quality control. Key departments like Power Train, HMS, and Field Quality were honoured for their contributions. Solis teams reduced PDI complaints, boosting customer satisfaction. The event reflected Sonalika’s continued commitment to excellence, efficiency, and innovation in tractor production for both Indian and global markets.

India Sees 8.68% Growth in Tractor Sales as Early Rains Spark Kharif Sowing Surge

Tractor sales rose 8.68% YoY in June 2025, boosted by early monsoon arrival and an 11.3% rise in Kharif sowing. Rural areas drove 81.6% of total tractor demand, reflecting strong farm activity and improving confidence. While challenges like heavy rainfall and financing hurdles persist, government infrastructure spending and positive rural sentiment are expected to support future growth. Two-wheeler sales also benefited from seasonal demand, with 57.4% coming from rural India, highlighting the sector’s rural dominance.

Mahindra Tractors Launches mLIFT Precision Hydraulics for Rajasthan Farmers

Mahindra has launched its mLIFT Precision Hydraulic System in Rajasthan for the 275 DI XP Plus, 475 DI MS XP Plus, and 575 DI XP Plus tractors. Built at the Jaipur plant, these models offer better depth control, higher fuel efficiency, and smoother power output—ideal for Kharif farming. The mLIFT system includes advanced hydraulics and electronic controls, backed by a 6-year warranty and strong local support. This move aims to boost productivity in Rajasthan’s tough farming conditions.

Tractor Sales Cross 1.21 Lakh Units in June 2025 After 8-Month Gap: Timely Monsoon and Strong Rabi Crop Drive Demand

India's tractor sales surged to 1,21,613 units in June 2025, marking a 10% year-on-year and 22% month-on-month growth. This is the highest monthly sales in eight months, driven by early monsoon, strong Rabi harvest, better rural liquidity, and government support. The recovery, which started in March, signals renewed farmer confidence and growing rural demand. With Kharif sowing underway and favourable weather, industry experts expect this positive momentum to continue in the coming months.

These efforts aim to make India a global leader in agriculture while supporting farmer incomes and export diversification.
