Farmers in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district have resumed cultivating their land near the International Border after a gap of 20 years, with the assistance of the Border Security Force (BSF).
The BSF has been providing security and bulletproof tractors to the farmers, who face the risk of ceasefire violations from Pakistan. The BSF personnel keep a strict vigil while the farmers do their work on their land.
The farmers, who had abandoned their land due to the constant threat of cross-border firing, have started growing crops for the last three years with the help of the BSF. They are happy as they can earn their livelihood from their land now.
The BSF has been helping the farmers in the border areas as part of its civic action programme, which aims to improve the living conditions and welfare of the local population.
