BharatBenz Opens 11,550ft Leh Workshop to Support Trucks in Ladakh

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) has opened a new BharatBenz commercial vehicle service centre in Leh, Ladakh, in partnership with PPS Trucking. Located at an altitude of around 11,550 feet, the facility is being positioned by DICV as India’s highest-altitude commercial vehicle workshop.

The new 20,000 sq ft facility is located in Phey Village along NH-1 on the Leh-Srinagar-Uri Highway. It will serve commercial vehicles operating across Leh, Kargil, Drass and areas towards the Leh-China border, providing easier access to authorised service, genuine spare parts and technical support.

BharatBenz Leh Workshop Gets 3 Service Bays

The facility operates as a 3S (Sales, Service and Spares) touchpoint and has three service bays with an annual capacity of more than 1,400 vehicles. It is equipped with BharatBenz diagnostic systems, workshop tools and genuine spare parts.

More than 20 trained technicians will operate the workshop. BharatBenz will also provide 24x7 roadside assistance to support customers in case of on-road breakdowns.

PPS Trucking will maintain spare-parts inventory at the facility to help reduce waiting periods and speed up vehicle repairs. The workshop also has dedicated driver rest areas and customer amenities.

Supporting Commercial Vehicles in Ladakh

The new workshop is expected to support BharatBenz trucks used in stone-crushing operations, road construction by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and the transportation of communication tower infrastructure. DICV said growing infrastructure activity in Ladakh, including road and building construction, is also driving demand for transport vehicles and ready-mix concrete (RMC).

Trucks operating in Ladakh face steep gradients, extreme weather and difficult terrain. Before the new facility, operators often had to travel considerable distances to access authorised service and genuine spare parts. The Leh workshop is intended to bring service support closer to these operating locations, helping reduce turnaround times and vehicle downtime.

Rajiv Chaturvedi, President and Chief Business Officer, DICV, said the facility addresses service-access challenges faced by operators in Ladakh and adjoining border areas by bringing repairs, spare parts and technical support closer to their operating locations.

Rajiv Sanghvi, Managing Director, PPS Trucking, said the partnership is part of the company’s efforts to expand its commercial vehicle service network in the region.

With its high-altitude location, trained technicians, three service bays, spare-parts support and 24x7 roadside assistance, the new BharatBenz facility is aimed at keeping trucks moving across one of India’s most demanding commercial vehicle operating regions.
