BEML has unveiled the BH60-EV, India’s first indigenous 60-ton electric dump truck, developed for demanding mining and infrastructure applications. The electric truck was unveiled at BEML’s Mysuru Complex on September 30, 2026.
BEML BH60-EV Electric Dump Truck: Battery and Powertrain
The BH60-EV is powered by a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM), rugged gearbox and a 1,000 kWh high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack. The electric powertrain delivers instant torque and high tractive effort, helping the truck operate on gradients and in heavy-duty conditions.
The truck produces zero tailpipe emissions during operation. BEML has also developed a dedicated charging station solution designed to work with site electrical infrastructure and support electric dump-truck fleet operations.
According to BEML, the BH60-EV can offer 40-60% lower operating costs compared with conventional diesel-powered equipment. Depending on operating conditions, it could also reduce CO₂ emissions by around 130 tonnes per vehicle annually.
BH60-EV Payload and Key Specifications
The electric dump truck offers a 54,500 kg payload capacity with a rock body, while its volumetric body capacity stands at 36.4 cubic metres.
Its electric platform is designed to reduce dependence on conventional fuel while improving energy efficiency, acceleration, gradeability and power-to-weight ratio. For safety in demanding mining environments, the BH60-EV gets a Roll-Over Protective Structure (ROPS), emergency steering and sealed oil-cooled disc brakes.
Expands BEML’s Electric Mining Equipment Portfolio
The BH60-EV follows BEML’s 35-ton electric dump truck, launched on April 10, 2026. With the new 60-ton model, BEML is expanding its electric equipment portfolio into higher-capacity mining and infrastructure applications.
BEML CMD Shantanu Roy said the BH60-EV represents the company’s move towards electric mobility for heavy industry. He highlighted its indigenous engineering, battery technology, performance and safety focus, with the truck developed around the requirements of mining and infrastructure operations.
The BH60-EV was developed at BEML’s Mysuru Complex. BEML operates across Defence & Aerospace, Mining & Construction, and Rail & Metro, with manufacturing facilities in Bengaluru, Kolar Gold Fields, Mysuru and Palakkad.
