Battery Smart teams up with Delhi Traffic Police to train e-rickshaw drivers on road safety, traffic rules, and battery handling.
Battery Smart and Delhi Traffic Police Organise Road Safety Program for E-Rickshaw Drivers in Delhi

Key Highlights:

  • Battery Smart and Delhi Traffic Police held a road safety and traffic awareness program.
  • The training included lessons on traffic rule compliance, battery safety, monsoon driving tips, and responsible road behaviour.
  • Chief Guest Shri Ajay Kumar and officials from both Battery Smart and Delhi Traffic Police supported the initiative and addressed the participants.
  • Select drivers received certificates for their dedication to safety practices during a closing ceremony.
  • Battery Smart continues to focus on driver training and safety.

Battery Smart, in collaboration with the Delhi Traffic Police, recently conducted a road safety and traffic rules awareness program for e-rickshaw drivers in the capital city. The initiative focused on promoting safe driving habits, educating drivers about traffic regulations, and encouraging safe battery handling, especially during the monsoon season.

Reaching Over 100 E-Rickshaw Drivers

The awareness program directly engaged with more than 100 e-rickshaw (three-wheeler) drivers, aiming to educate them on key safety practices. These drivers form a large part of Delhi's daily transport system, offering affordable and eco-friendly last-mile connectivity. The event aimed to equip them with essential knowledge to operate more safely and responsibly on city roads.

Key Focus Areas of the Training

The program included training on multiple aspects of road and personal safety. These included:

  • Following traffic rules
  • Practicing responsible and cautious driving
  • Understanding battery safety and electrical precautions
  • Managing vehicle safety during the rainy season
  • Safe parking techniques in crowded city areas

Interactive sessions were led by Delhi Traffic Police officials and Battery Smart ground teams. They used real-life examples to help drivers understand the importance of road discipline and safety precautions in day-to-day situations.

Guests and Leadership Support

The event was attended by several senior officials. Shri Ajay Kumar, Executive Magistrate of South West Delhi, was the Chief Guest, representing District Magistrate Shri Lakshay Singhal. He praised the initiative and emphasized the importance of creating awareness among road users.

"Creating safer roads starts with building awareness and responsible driving behaviour among all road users. By focusing on e-rickshaw drivers, which is a significant part of Delhi's mobility ecosystem, Battery Smart and the Delhi Traffic Police have taken a proactive step toward strengthening safe driving habits and reinforcing traffic discipline," he said

Battery Smart’s Commitment to Safety

Captain Hamendra Sharma, Vice President of Special Operations at Battery Smart, highlighted the company’s long-term mission. He stated, "E-rickshaw drivers are the frontline enablers of India's electric mobility revolution. We support them not just with battery-swapping infrastructure, but also with knowledge and training to drive safely. Through structured training and awareness programs, we aim to promote safer on-road behaviour and build a more responsible e-mobility ecosystem."

Certificate Ceremony and Recognition

At the end of the event, drivers who showed a strong commitment to road safety were recognised and awarded participation certificates. This was a motivational effort to encourage more drivers to take road safety seriously and apply their learning in daily operations.

Battery Smart has made driver safety training a mandatory part of its onboarding process. The company also runs regular awareness campaigns throughout the year to keep its network of drivers informed and updated. With over 1,500 battery swap stations and 70,000+ drivers served across 50 Indian cities, Battery Smart continues to expand its impact. Since its founding in 2019 by IIT-Kanpur graduates Pulkit Khurana and Siddharth Sikka, the company has completed more than 75 million battery swaps.

CMV360 Says

This initiative by Battery Smart and the Delhi Traffic Police is a commendable step toward improving road safety in Delhi. E-rickshaw drivers play a key role in daily urban transport, yet often lack formal training in traffic rules and vehicle safety. By offering hands-on education and recognizing drivers' efforts, this program not only raises awareness but also empowers drivers to be more responsible and confident on the road.
