Bajaj Auto has officially entered India’s fast-growing electric rickshaw market with the launch of its new Bajaj Riki series. This marks a major expansion for the company beyond its traditional two-wheeler and three-wheeler business. The entry comes at a time when the e-rickshaw segment is adding more than 45,000 new vehicles every month, driven by the rising demand for affordable and reliable last-mile mobility across cities and small towns.

Bajaj has introduced two models under its new Riki lineup:
Price: ₹1,90,890 (ex-showroom)
Battery: 5.4 kWh
Certified Range: 149 km (highest in passenger segment)
Price: ₹2,00,876 (ex-showroom)
Certified Range: 164 km
Features: Larger cargo tray, 28% gradeability for steep climbs, ideal for goods movement
Both models come with fast-charging support, offering a full charge in 4.5 hours, and a three-year battery warranty.
According to Bajaj Auto, the current e-rickshaw market suffers from several issues, including:
Low real-world range
Fragile chassis structures
Lead-acid batteries are prone to corrosion
Poor braking performance
Stability concerns
Limited after-sales service
To tackle these, the Riki models are built with:
Monocoque chassis for stronger body structure
Independent suspension for a smoother ride
Hydraulic brakes for better stopping power
Durable design to reduce wear and toppling risks
These features are uncommon in this category and focus on improving safety, comfort, and long-term reliability for both drivers and passengers.
Before launch, Bajaj tested the Riki extensively in Patna, Moradabad, Guwahati, and Raipur.
The company will now roll out retail operations across 100+ towns in:
Uttar Pradesh
Bihar
Madhya Pradesh
Chhattisgarh
Assam
Bajaj is also using its strong nationwide service network to support Riki owners from day one.
E-rickshaws have become a vital part of urban mobility, acting as feeder connections to metro stations, railway stations, and city bus stops. Their importance grew even more after the Covid-19 pandemic as people sought affordable, quick, and shared last-mile transport options.
Samardeep Subandh, President of Bajaj Auto’s Intra-City Business Unit, said the company aims to offer a more dependable and safer mobility option. He highlighted that drivers and commuters need reliable, high-quality vehicles as last-mile mobility becomes essential in urban transport. The Riki, he said, is designed to improve driver earnings, passenger comfort, and overall safety.
Bajaj Auto is already the world’s most valuable two-wheeler and three-wheeler manufacturer, with over 21 million motorcycles sold globally and the first in its segment to reach a ₹2 trillion market capitalization. The launch of Riki marks another strategic step in expanding its footprint in India’s electric mobility sector.
