75 electric buses deployed in Puducherry.
25 (9m) and 50 (12m) AC city buses.
Operate from Mettupalayam Bus Depot.
Equipped with ITMS and real-time tracking.
Backed by Eversource Capital.
GreenCell Mobility has deployed 75 electric buses in Puducherry, supporting the Union Territory’s transition towards zero-emission public transportation. The announcement was highlighted at a recent event led by Narendra Modi, marking a major milestone in Puducherry’s clean mobility journey.
The project aims to improve urban connectivity, reduce tailpipe emissions, and strengthen sustainable and technology-driven public transport infrastructure across the region.
Under the Puducherry electric bus project, GreenCell Mobility is deploying:
25 nine-metre electric buses
50 twelve-metre electric buses
All 75 buses are air-conditioned and equipped with higher battery capacities. They are specially designed to meet Puducherry’s standard city and trunk route operational needs.
These buses will operate from the Mettupalayam Bus Depot, enhancing last-mile connectivity while improving the quality, reliability, and efficiency of public transport services across key trunk and feeder corridors.
For this project, GreenCell Mobility has partnered with EKA Mobility for the supply and deployment of the buses. The collaboration brings advanced and cutting-edge electric bus technology to the Union Territory.
The induction of these buses is expected to significantly reduce tailpipe emissions while strengthening operational reliability across major routes.
All electric buses deployed in Puducherry come fitted with modern and passenger-friendly features, including:
Integrated Transport Management System (ITMS)
Passenger Information Systems
Real-time Vehicle Tracking Systems
Internal and reversing surveillance cameras
Differently-abled-friendly accessibility infrastructure
These features ensure safe, accessible, and technology-enabled mobility for all commuters.
Commenting on the development, Devndra Chawla, Managing Director and CEO of GreenCell Mobility, said the Puducherry project reinforces the company’s commitment to developing sustainable public transport ecosystems across India’s emerging urban centres.
He added that backed by strong institutional capital and policy support, the company is focused on delivering reliable and technology-led electric mobility solutions that cities and Union Territories can depend on for the long term.
GreenCell Mobility is backed by Eversource Capital and currently operates more than 1,200 electric buses across intra-city and inter-city routes in India. The company supports its operations with over 270 charging stations nationwide, strengthening the EV ecosystem.
Several of its projects have been awarded under the National E-Bus Program and the PM Seva E-Mobility Program, further accelerating electric bus adoption across states.

Beyond Puducherry, GreenCell Mobility is executing major electric bus projects across multiple states, including:
700 buses in Uttar Pradesh
150 buses in Surat
582 buses in Madhya Pradesh
750 buses in Andhra Pradesh
915 buses in Telangana
400 buses in Karnataka
570 buses in Delhi
The company also operates 50 intercity electric buses for the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation, strengthening its presence in both urban and intercity mobility segments.
Through its intercity brand NueGo, GreenCell Mobility runs India’s largest premium electric coach service. The brand operates a fleet of over 300 electric coaches, connecting more than 100 locations across the country.
This expansion supports the company’s Electric Mobility-as-a-Service (eMaaS) model, where it partners with governments and transport authorities to build future-ready, zero-emission mobility ecosystems.
The deployment of 75 electric buses in Puducherry marks a major step toward cleaner, greener, and more reliable public transport. With advanced technology, improved connectivity, and reduced emissions, the initiative is set to transform urban mobility in the Union Territory.
As India accelerates its shift towards sustainable transport solutions, GreenCell Mobility continues to play a key role in building a strong electric bus network across the country.
