Bajaj Auto, one of India's leading automobile manufacturers, is set to enter the domestic e-rickshaw market by the end of this fiscal year. The company sees a significant opportunity in this rapidly growing but largely unorganized sector.
Bajaj Auto’s Executive Director, Rakesh Sharma, confirmed that the company is expecting to receive regulatory approvals by the end of the ongoing quarter. This will enable the brand to introduce its new e-rickshaw, a modern electric vehicle designed to set new standards in the segment.
Sharma stated, "We expect to launch the e-rick by the end of this quarter, likely by the end of the FY25 fiscal. If all permissions are secured in time, sales may begin in late March or early April."
The e-rickshaw market in India is estimated at around 45,000 units per month. Despite its potential, the sector is highly fragmented, with many low-quality and import-dependent products. Bajaj Auto aims to change this by introducing a high-quality, reliable alternative.
According to Sharma, almost 50% of India’s three-wheeled mobility market consists of e-rickshaws, with strong demand in northern and eastern India, and some presence in the west.
"The e-rickshaw segment is nearly as large as the auto-rickshaw segment. By launching our own e-rick, we aim to organize this market and create fresh business opportunities," he said. Bajaj Auto expects a significant scale-up in sales during the first quarter of the new financial year.

With its upcoming e-rickshaw launch, Bajaj Auto is assured for strong growth in the EV market. The company’s focus on quality, innovation, and expanding its market presence is expected to bring positive changes to India's evolving electric mobility sector.
