Key Highlights

  • Anurag Mehrotra resigns as Vice President of Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles.
  • Mehrotra helped Tata Motors expand in markets like Egypt and Thailand.
  • Previously, he was MD of Ford India, where he turned around the company's performance.
  • JSW MG Motor plans a major management revamp with new executives in key areas.

Anurag Mehrotra, the Vice President of International Business and Strategy at Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles, has resigned from his position. Sources say he is likely to join JSW MG Motor in February as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Tata Motors spokesperson confirmed Mehrotra’s resignation. Mehrotra, who took on his current role in October 2021, played a significant part in expanding Tata Motor’s presence in key international markets like Egypt and Thailand. He helped the company focus on reducing the impact of the cyclicality in India’s commercial vehicle market. His efforts also led to the successful launches of key products like the Tata Prima and Tata Ultra.

Mehrotra’s Legacy at Ford India

Before joining Tata Motors, Mehrotra was the Managing Director of Ford India. During his time there, he played a key role in the proposed Ford-Mahindra joint venture, which aimed for global expansion. However, this venture did not come to success due to changing economic conditions.

With more than two decades of experience in the automotive industry, Mehrotra is expected to use his expertise in both domestic and international markets to help JSW MG Motor grow. The company, which is owned by JSW and China's SAIC, aims to triple its volume over the next three to five years.

JSW MG Motor's Management Overhaul

JSW MG Motor is also planning a major overhaul of its top management. New executives are expected to be appointed in areas such as sales and marketing, HR, and administration.

Mehrotra’s Success at Ford India

During his time at Ford India, Mehrotra led the company through a challenging period, turning around significant losses into profits. His leadership was instrumental in reducing costs and focusing on exports, helping Ford India increase its revenue and reduce its structural costs by 37%. This success led Ford’s India revenue to grow from Rs 19,000 crore in FY17 to over Rs 24,000 crore in FY19.

Mehrotra’s New Role at JSW MG Motor

Mehrotra’s departure from Ford in 2021 followed the company’s decision to stop domestic car production as part of a global restructuring plan. He had been set to lead the Ford-Mahindra joint venture as CEO before it was canceled in December 2020.

As he moves to JSW MG Motor, Mehrotra’s extensive experience and knowledge will likely play a crucial role in driving the company’s future growth and success.

CMV360 Says

Anurag Mehrotra’s resignation from Tata Motors marks the end of a significant chapter in his career. With vast experience in both domestic and international markets, his upcoming role as CEO at JSW MG Motor is expected to drive the company’s growth. His leadership will likely play a pivotal role in shaping JSW MG Motor’s future success.
